Meditation Reflection Essay

Very honestly, this meditation helped me catch up on some much needed sleep. I’m not proud of falling asleep during meditation, and I tried not doing so, but I was too tired. The classical music that I heard while I was awake for the first 25-30 minutes or so didn’t exactly appeal to my tastes. I respect and admire all forms of classical music, but the ones played were not exactly my favorite kind of pieces. While the ones played were livelier tunes highlighting the strings, I prefer more epic pieces focusing on the full ensemble, not just Violin 1. In my own experience arranging music for orchestras, I find that having a simple fanfare or complicated melody and countermelody is most effective when supported by a wide range of low strings, low woodwinds, and brass instruments. I especially enjoy having the French horn playing very simple quarter or half note background melodies in its upper octaves, which not only emphasize the horn’s beautiful sound as a solo instrument (I like to call it the opera singer of brass), but ties in wonderfully with the rest of the ensemble. My favorite part of classical music is a shift in tone and style, for example: going from a very fast and exciting part of the song to a slow and beautiful one and maybe back again, then finishing with a huge maestoso or grandioso finale. It was very much a surprise to me when I woke up listening to Star Wars: The Imperial March theme. I enjoy that particular segment of the Star Wars soundtrack. While the majority of Star Wars music is smooth and epic, the two songs that stand out the most are March of the Ewoks and The Imperial March. The Imperial March in particular is a very forceful piece that excellently portrays Vader in all of his might. The rhythm of the entire piece is exceedingly simple unlike the Main Theme, which has very complicated sections. However, I appreciated the classical music
