Confronted with these images, the reader is encouraged to sympathise with the author’s contention. Many of these unrealistic images are also the driving force behind the increasing demand to see realistic images of young women in the media. Stark’s contention is strengthened by anecdotes from affected girls, attempting to recreate the ‘perfect body’ on themselves, who constantly obsess with these glossy magazines. Including Erin Young’s story of her ‘own struggle with body image’, that almost led to anorexia, plays a big part in encouraging the reader to side with Stark’s opinion. These stories assist the reader in understanding the serious widespread nature of the issue.
I believe that it is important that we make these contraceptives available for teens. I think it may be a good idea to have some form of birth control that is free for those who can’t afford it. Some clinics provide birth control to teens without the consent of a parent, this may be a good thing because many teens are afraid to talk to their parents about sex and birth control. Many teenagers today are very sexually active and take the risk that comes with sexual intercourse. Education is our number one source in getting sexual information out to the teenagers.
This is exactly what the movie, Mean Girls, does. It focuses on certain aspects of teens’ lives and overdramatizes them to add humor and to show the negative effects of certain behavior. Through the clicks, girl drama, raging parties, and many sex scenes, Mean Girls fits perfectly into the teen comedy mold. While Mean Girls addresses many cultural ideologies, central to the movie, one that is overplayed is the female stereotype. Mean Girls attempts to critique the typical female stereotype by using the plastics to over exaggerate the glamour and happiness that comes from being popular.
Many times the end result is young girls subjecting their selves to abusive boyfriends at pre-teen age to fit an image. When kids are shown images that promote sex as good things that are tied directly into fabulous products or lifestyles why not
Alexander Russell Advanced Comp. October 4, 2011 “Showbiz Encourages Looser Teen Sex Habits” “Show Biz Encourages Looser Teen Sex Habits,” is written by Sheryl McCarthy. It is an essay in which Sheryl raises various issues that have either led to or correlated with teens in today’s society exhibiting sexual habits that are not conducive to developing lasting relationships, or for being physically and emotionally healthy. With an inductive approach, McCarthy attempts to draw conclusions regarding today’s teens, however these claims can be discredited due to disconnect and inadequacy in her logic. The use of fallacies which include, hasty generalizations, ad hominem, and appeal to tradition are the tools employed in this essay which deteriorate the fabric of truth that the reader may cling to.
Pornography helps us to free ourselves from the abstinent attitudes about sex that have long dominated our society. As for that, opponents believe that pornography is not harmful and should therefore be legally tolerated. I totally disagree with that statement as pornography causes people to have more negative attitudes towards women to engage in harmful behaviours like rape and child molestation. We can find pornography facilitates and child molestation in several ways. For example, pedophiles often prefer children close to puberty who are sexually inexperienced and use pornographic photos to demonstrate to their victims what they want them to do.
Unsuspecting parents may be unaware of drug use in their children. I’m trying to find out ways to help reduce usage and abuse against teenagers and young adult to help better the younger generation and make them a strong minded human being. Reducing this can benefit the society in major ways because most of the younger adults who drop out of school are related to illicit drug usages and abuse. I. “Young people and drugs abuse”.
Many steps have been taken to try to convince teenagers, as well as adults, to stop texting while behind the wheel. One way is through Public Service Announcements (PSA’s), which can create an emotional environment for the audiences. It gets to the audience through their emotions, which can help reduce the number of distracted driving incidents. But, some might say PSA’s are useless, because for those who have the “it won’t happen to me” mind set, it might not be very convincing. Furthermore, in my opinion, a Public Service Announcement can have a great amount of influence on an audience.
The impact that the media in the United States has on the minds of the youth has changed into an increasingly dangerous issue. While the media has many positive influences there are still yet many negative behaviors exercised by many teenagers and young adults. Amongst these behaviors is the acceptance of how sex is ok amongst teenagers. The media has become a pool of promiscuity which has led to the spread of many STD’s including HIV and AIDS. This essay describes how the media has led to the rise in promiscuity and thus leading to the continuous growth of the HIV Pandemic giving other countries a reason to believe that the people in the United States have poor cultural values.
The author did a great job explaining the hereditary factors, effects to the body, and ways to prevent underage drinking. Facts on hereditary really drew me in because I could use that in my paper so teens know that they aren’t only hurting themselves but possibly their future offspring. Also, I would definitely use this source because it gives ways to stop and lower the number of underage drinkers. Hyde, Margaret O., and John F. Setaro. Alcohol 101: An Overview for Teens.
