Matthew Libatique's work has been turning heads recently, however, the Queens-born Cinematographer has left his mark on dozens of films since his first Indie Film Festival-winning production in 1998. Now 42 years old, Libatique got his start majoring in Sociology & Communications at California State University. He received an MFA in Cinematography in 1995 at the American Film Institute, where he met longtime collaborator, Darren Aronofsky. Libatique works with the highly cinematic director/screenwriter, Darren Aronofsky, on just about every single film he writes, stemming back from little shorts to the definitive indie breakout film, Requiem For A Dream, to the critically-acclaimed and highly celebrated 2010 blockbuster, Black Swan. While Libatique prefers to work on tight budget films, he has worked with visionaries of all calibers. Throughout his career Matthew Libatique has worked with young directors, experienced directors, veterans of the craft, and first-time directors. He doesn't miss a beat. When he’s not working on a film, he’s continuing to experiment and keep his skill sharp by shooting music videos.
