Shawshank Redemption-Courage by Thomas McKernan "The Shawshank redemption is a film about courage. Discuss. In your answer include at least one of the film scenes that add drama to the film including mis-en-scene." Frank Darabont, a master of his craft meticulously and carefully constructs the film The Shawshank Redemption. As director the nuances of his genius are processed through many stages to reach an elite level of cinema very few have had the privilege to ascertain. Morgan Freeman describes the film as "a film with heart." However true, the drama is the main component of the film as it provides the majority of tension and ultimately the resolution. With the screenplay written and directed by the same person he was granted complete creative control over the characters first created by Steven King. Darabont’s fictional retrospective provides much drama but not without astounding the audience with such precision and prowess only he could complete. The drama of the film is reflected through the various episodes of dramatic tension in the picture. As a convicted felon who had reached his thither, Andy confides within realism to keep him sane, he partakes in hobbies that serve as a constant reminder that there is hope and things to live for outside prison. Andy's overwhelming desire to escape prison is fuelled by the various prospects that lay beyond the foreboding desolate prison walls of Shawshank. Andy in his escape venture needed an alibi; he needed to create an alias to protect his true identity as a man in need to escape. Andy created the timid, kind and outgoing man that performed bank advice and was well liked throughout the system through this he was able to evidently execute his plan without anyone even suspecting that mild mannered Andy Dufresne had escaped the walls of Shawshank Prison in 1966. “Courage is grace through pressure.” Ernest
