The tone and mood of Martin Luther King Jr. and Malcolm X were very different. Whilr King was peacefull and non-violent, X was militant and agressive. Martin Luther King Jr. inspired people by giving them hope as this line from his speech demonstrates “I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.”. Malcolm X did the opposite, he wanted his listeners to fight back and inspired them with such quotes as "Join any kind of organization - civic, religious, fraternal, political or otherwise - that's based on lifting ... the black man up and making him master of his own community." Malcolm X's approach to attaining freedom for African Americans was almost impossible. He wanted to separate blacks from whites, and have African Americans be the first class citizens. He basically wanted a kind of elevated segregation. He demonstrates this in this quote "When white people are evenly divided, and black people have a bloc of votes of their own, it is left up to them to determine who's going to sit in the White House and who's going to be in the dog house. " Martin Luther King Jr. approach to attaining freedom for African Americans was through peaceful protest. King wanted equal rights for everyone, regardless of their color. "The sweltering summer of the Negro’s legitimate discontent will not pass until there is an invigorating autumn of freedom and equality" this quote shows King's masterfull use of language to inspire his listeners, he put the idea of equality into their minds without resorting to
