I was surprised at how aggravated I was when I was reading because Hal ad Claire didn’t believe her. Catherine kept this big secret from everyone and when she finally decides to open up and tell them they don’t believe her. I can relate to her and I can understand why she would be so hurt and storm off. I have personally been in many situations like this because all my life people have underestimated me. In the novel The Catcher in the Rye by J.D Salinger, the main character Holden alienates himself due to his refusal to take responsibility of his life as he is growing up. Holden Caulfeild struggles through his teenage life, has been kicked out of several schools, is disgusted by society, and is naively fixated on childhood. Holden continually envies the innocence that children possess as he finds the adult world repulsive. This theme is most used throughout the novel The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini. After the main character Amir witnesses his best friend Hassan being sexually abused by a group of boys and then betrays their friendship by not defending him, he then seeks forgiveness for his past mistakes. Amir makes many attempts in seeking for forgiveness for his past mistakes throughout the novel, but is not always successful. Amir's first attempt to seek forgiveness is when he begins throwing pomegranates at Hassan and yells at him to hit him back, but Hassan doesn't.
Holden, who goes to pencey prep with “hot shots” that “jump over fences with horses” makes things harder for himself. Here Holden is shying him self away from the society of pencey prep that has been given to him , he believes that almost all the people that go there are molded into something that society wants us to be , and what Holden doesn’t want to be. A feeling of alone bitterness comes upon Holden as he talks about the so called polo playing school that pencey is made out to be. Self destructive is what Holden becomes while “leaving foils and equipment and stuff on the goddamn subway”. People may argue that some players perform better under pressure however anxiety causes stress and not only will the coach be upset if one player costs them a game, but the team will be frustrated as well. When someone signs up for a competitive sport (like football) they should realize beforehand that it will be a pretty cutthroat experience. In high school football you are competing against students for scholarships, star positions, and other highly sought after amenities. First, one of the challenges Dave Pelzer faced in his youth was finally being taken out of his mother’s house and put into foster care. In the beginning, he thinks that being a foster kid is going to be good but it took him a while to realize that it wasn’t what he dreamt it to be. Though he was away from abuse from his mother, foster care meant constant move for him. With all the moves he had to go through, he never really got the chance to fit in and become part of something. As soon as he felt like he was finally settling down, he left the family he was staying with.
More and more parents are letting go of their stern parenting not even giving their kids a small "spank" on the bottom which is NOT child abuse. They are afraid to do that these days because of these psycho moms and dads who call the DCFS and the police if they see or hear of you spanking your child. Children test their boundaries. Back in the day our parents used to REALLY SPANK us if we did something wrong and I bet we never did that thing again. These days the kids get time outs and the parents try talking to them as if they were mini adults and can understand and grasp exactly the point you are trying to get across to them.
