But at the start he got bullied and he was scared to join in with some of the boys. Coincidence and parallel incidents are used in the story to make it seem that the course is controlling everything. Stanley is able to break the family curse because he carry’s zero up the mountain and drank the water from the hole he dug and sang the song. Another coincidence is that Stanley drops the spade back down the mountain and has to waste time by going down to get it. In this story Stanley had behaved really well.

Analyse how one or more symbols were used to present an important idea Friendship is like a pomengranate fruit. If you eat a pomengranate then it can make you happy however if it gets broken its beauty is lost. If this is a quote it needs quotation marks around it. Marc Forster’s, “The Kite Runner” Only underline – you don’t need the quotation marksuses the symbol of a pomengranate tree to present the important idea of friendship vs. betrayal through the main characters, Amir and Hassan’s friendship. When the pomengranate tree is not broken we see how beautiful the friendship between the boys is.

The conch symbolizes a meeting place but the tree does too, “Finny also made a good jump, and the Super Suicide Society of the Summer Session was officially established”(Knowles 31). Finny and Gene meet each other every night at the tree during the summer because they are part of a membership that requires them to jump off the tree. In both of the novels the tree and the conch indicates law and order for the characters. Holding the conch Ralph says, “That’s what this shell’s called. I’ll give the conch to the next person to speak.
He sat on the bench and thought the words Rahim had said “ There is a way to be good again” before he hung up . The twin kites had made Amir think of Hassan, Baba, Ali and Kabul. Later, after Finny’s first fall, Gene lets Finny train him to be in the Olympics out of guilt for making him fall. Symbolism runs through this novel, the river at Devon starts out clear and becomes foggier. This river is like Gene’s conscience, at the beginning of the novel, it is clear, but by the end, it is cloudy and dirty. His emotions and passions cause this because they lead him to jounce the branch and train for the Olympics. The story ends with Finny falling for a second time and dying
One of those situations being the betrayal of Finny to Gene when he causes him to flunk his first test. Another being how betrayed Gene felt when Leper accused him of deliberately hurting Finny and causing him to fall out of the tree, shattering his leg. The most influential betrayal of the whole novel was when Gene jounced the limb and broke Finny’s leg. Although finny forgave him, he still couldn’t help but feel a little bit betrayed by him. He had always thought they were best friends and that they were always there for each other, when Finny never realized Gene only saw the competition between them, and that really shows how completely different types of people they are.
