A tragic hero in a story is one who shows nobility but eventually comes to an unhappy end due to a fatal flaw or mistake in his or her character. Julius Caesar is, without a doubt, the true tragic hero in the play, The Tragedy of Julius Caesar, by Shakespeare because he is an important, noble person of high rank who meets and unhappy end due to a fatal flaw in his character. Julius Caesar is classified as the tragic hero because he is a noble character with a high rank. Julius Caesar is also the main character of the play. Even though Julius dies in the third act of the play, the whole play would not even have a plot line if it was not for him. “It must be by his death and for my part I know no personal cause to spurn at him, But for the general" (Brutus explaining that the only reason he’d kill Caesar is for Rome.) There would have been no conspiracy or even a war with Antony. Second, Julius is obviously a man of high rank. He lived in a palace, and he was a great general, but most importantly he was liked by the people. “But, indeed, sir, we make holiday, to see Caesar and to rejoice in his triumph.” Third, Julius is probably the noblest character in the play. When Julius was offered the crown, he turned it down, and did so two more times when he was offered it again. When his wife tried to convince him to stay home, Julius said “Cowards die many times before their deaths, the valiant never taste of death but once… seeing that death, a necessary end, will come when it will come” which meant that Rome was more important to him than his own life. Julius Caesar also is a tragic hero for making his fatal mistake of being oblivious to all warning signs. Throughout the time before his death, he was confronted with all sorts of warnings that he ignored.
