In 1535, I sailed to Mexico with Antonio de Mendoza, the colony’s first Admiral. I became one of the governors of New Galacia (one of the Spanish colonies in the New World). Searching for the Seven Cities of Gold Between 1536 and 1539, Admiral Mendoza heard stories about the Seven Cities of Cibolo, the Seven Cities of Gold where the streets and houses were made of gold and jewels. He sent me on an expedition to find them and claim the wealth for Spain. In 1540 I set out with 300 soldiers and about 1,000 Indians.
His career in exploration started when he was very young. As a teenager he traveled the seas and eventually made Portugal his base. Columbus came to believe that the East Indies (present day Indonesia and surrounding islands) could be reached by sailing west through the Atlantic Ocean. He appealed to the kings of Portugal, France and England to finance a westward trip to the Indies, but all denied his request. After ten years of monumental efforts but fruitless results, King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella of Spain agreed to finance Columbus in the hopes of acquiring great wealth.
Louis IX led two crusades to spread catholic religion to other countries. Much like the California missions founding friars, Louis IX dedicated his life to spreading the catholic faith. The governor of Alta California, Governor Borica, decided that a mission should be built in the area between the two existing missions. This way Spanish travelers would have a safe stopping point. On February 27, 1798, he sent soldiers from the San Diego presidio to help the president of the missions, Fray Lasuen, find a suitable site and build temporary shelters there, A spot was chosen, and on June 13, 1798, Fray Lasuen officially founded Mission San Luis Rey de Francia.
Fierce Pacific storms, rolling waters, and high winds pinned us down for three weeks. The most disagreeable time I have experienced. By the middle of November, we acutally made it to the Pacific. Eagerly we scanned the gray, rolling waves of the ocean for the masts of a ship that could carry us home. December 8 - 30 We decided to make camp south of the Columbia.
Montezuma died from a stoning three days after asking the Aztec people to calm down. On June 30, 1520, a dark rainy night known as Noche Triste, the Spaniards retreated from the
George Washington was the last man to set foot onto the flat bottom boats during the exodus. It took Washington and his forces thirteen hours to effect the retreat and had it not been for heavy rain and thick fog; their retreat would not have been possible. Silently, the defeated American forces crossed the river to safety and now had another chance to do battle yet again. Even though all American forces escaped unharmed, an important American seaport had been
While Alyson and Lynn stayed in 6A, Logan and Jason moved into the nearby Ronald McDonald House, a place to stay for families receiving treatment for serious illnesses. Two days before Christmas, Jason caught the Norwalk virus, throwing the whole process off-track as doctors kept him quarantined, waiting for him to recover. If Jason was no longer a suitable match—if his health wasn’t good enough or there was something wrong with his liver—the chances of finding another donor in time were extremely slim. He lay in bed, worrying every wasted day was putting his daughter one step closer to
He said that what the people called South America was not part of Asia so he named it the New World. So when people back then thought of this New World they thought of Americus Vespucius. Not long after people insisted the New World should be named America in his honor, America was on the map in 1507 Florida- In 1513 Ponce De Leon sailed north west from the Bahamas he had found new land at this time. On Easter Sunday he left off the shores of the new land. The Spain name for Easter was La Pascua de los flores so De Leon called the new land Florida.
These revolutions followed the American and French Revolutions, which had profound effects on the Spanish, Portuguese and French colonies in the Americans. Simon Bolivar was an influence of the Latin American Revolution. His goals were to mold the former Spanish colonies of South America into a confederation just like the U.S. The Latin American War of Independence comprised numerous wars and conflicts which took place between 1808 - 1829. He fought against Spanish rule in 1811 with the inspiration of George Washington.
Columbus an Italian believed he could sail west across the Atlantic and reach India. With sponsorship from the Spanish Monarch Columbus, with 3 ships and 90 sailors discovers the New World. He arrived at the Bahamas first encountering the Arawak Indians. Columbus never in his lifetime acknowledged that what he discovered was not India. Millions of natives in the New World died due to European illness making it easier for the Spanish Conquistadors to move in and take over much of the Americas.
