Leadership is built throughout the 4 years, as you increase in rank you will gain responsibilities, become an officer, a chief, and so on. You start by just being a squad member, but if you really show motivation, you will gain experience and leadership and even a higher rank.

I had heard about some ‘distance learning’ courses that a few of my colleagues had completed in the past, and enquired to my manager about any available. She informed me that there was an upcoming ‘infection control’ distance learning course, which would gain me an NCFE certificate. I requested to be signed up for this course, as I felt I wanted to learn more about a subject that is very important in my role. It was my job to ensure I phoned Stratford College to arrange my sign up, and take down any notes that were necessary. I used time management to ensure that I met each of my four week deadlines, having done the work to the standard required.
