Their ideas often differed from other black leaders. DuBois’s affiliation with the NAACP attempted to solve the problem through integration. Garvey’s UNIA centered around the idea of blacks helping blacks, attempting to relieve blacks of any dependence on whites. Both men had a lasting impact on generations to come. The beliefs of W.E.B.
Washington believed that industrial education would be more effective. When debating the possible solutions to uplift the black race, Washington suggested his viewpoints, Du Bois suggested his viewpoints, and the opposing viewpoints were disputed. Much like today, their philosophies are well discussed on how to end class and racial injustice. Washington was born in slavery in Franklin County, Virginia. He became an influential black leader during the late 1800’s to the early 1900’s.
Presidents such as John F. Kennedy and Lyndon B. Johnston helped use their executive powers to help civil rights in America. JFK helped pass laws that gave blacks equality to vote and get a good education. He passed the CEEO, which gave all Americans an equal opportunity to get a good job in America. Lyndon also passed laws to help the Civil Rights movement. He passed the Civil Rights Act of 1964, which ended segregation in public places.
In this paper we will examine the impact of 9/11 on Americans and the U.S. economy and why the U.S. responded to the terrorism by enacting the USA Patriot act to “protect” America, which had become a big controversial issue to Americans. Another topic we will discuss is the negative effects of the Patriot Act such as violating Americans civil liberties and how the government stereotyped and secretly arrested Arab or Muslim citizens. The tragedy of 9/11 has impacted America in many ways and ever since then, America has made a lot of changes to prevent another tragedy, such as the national security which is tighter than it has ever been in recent years, especially in airports. According to Jennie Wood’s article, she mentions that the airport has way too many restrictions on what to bring in the plane for every traveler, such as, “Liquids and toiletries have to be a certain size and placed in clear, sealed bags. Progressive reformers moved to correct flaws in government and improve societal equality, but they soon found the widened divisions in American society to be difficult, if not impossible, to overcome. (Out of Many, 606) Progressivism was characterized by a series of movements, each of them aimed in one way or another at renovating or restoring American society, its values, and institutions. (Out of Many, 612) The three basic social issues addressed by the Progressives were women suffrage, freedmens civil rights, and working conditions. Introduction The events of September 11th 2001 have cause a major alteration in the world. After 9/11 many countries throughout the world have increased security in airports and country borders, and increased security in main areas of major cities. The biggest consequence of 9/11 however was the USA’s war on terror. The war on terror was started with the objective of recognizing, finding and destroying terrorists, denying sponsorships to terrorist organizations and defending people all over the world from future terrorist attacks. However, the USA’s war on terror has had a negative effect on many countries in the world as well as their own, and their citizens by creating animosity in the international community, causing a downturn in their own economy and their major allies, and ruining their international reputation.

Later, he gives the opinion that the fate of white people is tied up with the destiny of the black and their peaceful coexistence is essential for the progress and prosperity of the state. He then moves on to describe the potential of the population that has not been allowed to participate in the progress of the country. He argued that if given respect, opportunity and responsibility, the African Americans would be capable enough to be active participants in nation building. He beautifully told that it is the duty of the government to uproot the racial discrimination between the blacks and whites.
This new type of patriotism that plagued the lands¾infecting many¾brought us Americans some much needed unification¾but at the expense of living in fear, out-casting the ones whom stand out from the norm. Some call this an improvement, that we’re now on our toes at all times. However, I completely disagree. I’d like to present the facts to you as clearly as I possibly could. Due to the September 11 attacks, America has changed for the worse.
War created the United Nations, the Geneva Conventions, and the Red Cross. So, it can be argued that what brings out the very worst in the human condition also, in a very warped way, brings out the best in us as well. War, by definition, means a period of conflict. The opinions about war alter from person to person and year to year. If a military expert or the president is questioned, he might think wars are good because they can boast about military efficiency.
