Describe and explain Islamic ethical teachings on sexual ethics Ethics is defined as the justification for reasoning behind human behaviour. The Islamic jurisprudence is the main source of ethical teachings for all Muslims which includes the Qur'an, Hadith, Ijima, Qiyas and Sharia Law. This jurisprudence stems from the principal beliefs of Islam which gives guidance to Muslims on various issues, one of them being sexual ethics. Islam considers sexuality to be a part of a person's divinely created identity. Marriage and raising children is the ideal where as adultery and homosexuality are forbidden. Marriage or Nikah in Islam is of high importance and is a natural act for human beings. It is important for the procreation of the Umma and is considered a contract between them and Allah. Marriage is a means of better moral values, preservation of honour and dignity. Neglecting marriage is regarded as a denial of all the normal human behaviors and pure code of social ethics. "And one of his signs is that he created mates for you, that you may find the rest in them, and He envisaged between you love and compassion.." Qur'an 30:21. Sex is an essential human need that must be satisfied, and prohibits deprivation of sexual behaviours. Sex within its proper status is a form of Ibadah (worship). Nikah must be publicly announced as it is a confirmation of male and female togetherness in the Umma. A male must provide dowry before Nikah. The Qur'an stresses the importance of human sexuality in promoting committed and compassionate relationships. "They are your garments and ye are their garments" Surah 2:187. Marriage connects a couple to Allah, as they are two bodies and one soul, through which they worship Allah. This represents Tawhid, the oneness of Allah.
