This field is said to be active and frequently interrelating with the solar wind and channelling plasma into Mercury’s surface from the sun. The chemicals captured from the solar wind include Hydrogen and Helium, which help create Mercury’s extremely thin atmosphere. Scientists would argue that there is ‘no’ atmosphere on Mercury at all. The little amount of gas found on Mercury is trillions of times thinner than the gasses found on earth, and would not be able to be detected without exceptionally sensitive equipment. Although very thin, Mercury’s atmosphere is made up of trace amounts of gasses including 42% Oxygen, 29% Sodium, 22% Hydrogen, 6% Helium, and 0.5% Potassium.
Chapter 17 Vocabulary AP CHEMISTRY 1. Electromagnetic radiation: radiant energy that exhibits wave-like behavior and travels through space at the speed of light in a vacuum 2. Wavelength: the distance between two consecutive peaks or troughs in a wave 3. Frequency: the number of waves (cycles) per second that pass a given point in space 4. Planck's constant: the constant relating the change in energy for a system to the frequency of the electromagnatic radiation absorbed or emitted, equal to 6.626 X 10^-34 J 5.
Characteristics of the Element Neon Neon was discovered in 1898 by British chemists Sir William Ramsay and Morris W. Travers as a component of the most volatile fraction of liquefied crude argon obtained from air. Upon applying an electric current to it, the chemists found that it had an orange glow, and they decided that it was not argon, but rather a new element altogether. Neon is not a very common element, but the places it is most abundant in are the earth's atmosphere, and trapped within rocks in the earth's crust. The place where it is most abundant, however, is the throughout the cosmos. In the earth's atmosphere, neon only comprises 0.0018 percent of the volume.
D. Scholar Geography 1 November 11, 2012 Test Corrections #1 Question: Which atmospheric heating process involves the emission of energy from an object? Correct Answer: E) Radiation My Answer: D) Why it’s Wrong: Radiation is the right answer because it has much stronger. It’s stronger than transmission, scattering, reflection and absorption. A good example would be: if your wearing a black shirt out in the sun you would be much hotter than if you’re wearing a white shirt. The black shirt would also fade over time because the suns rays would eat up the shirt.
They changed because the molecules of hydrogen and helium were moving so fast that they eventually escaped the Earth. 14. Explain how the greenhouse effect works and how it relates to global warming. The greenhouse effect is when radiation at visible wavelengths passes freely through the atmosphere and is absorbed at the ground. The ground heats up and emits infrared radiation.
Introduction: All of us who enjoy a brisk walk in the park or a gorgeous sunrise can appreciate the benefits of ultraviolet light from the sun: vitamin D for the skeletal and nervous systems, alleviation of depression and improve metabolism. However, UV light has even more important functions to humans: it kills pathogenic bacteria by triggering the formation of thymine dimers in the DNA of bacterial cells, destroying cellular DNA replication. UV light can have both lethal and sub lethal effects, depending on the applied emission, wavelength and intensity. UV light is nonionizing short wave-length radiation that falls between 4 nm and 400 nm in the visible spectrum (Brown, 2012). Most bacteria are killed by the effects of UV light and it is routinely used to sterilize surfaces, such as work areas of transfer hoods used for the inoculation of cultures.
What is the energy of a photon with a frequency of 6·1014 Hz? Answer | | 4·10-20 J | | | 4·10-19 J | | | 4 J | | | 40 J | 1 points Question 6 1. Which of the following statements (related to the photoelectric effect) is FALSE? Answer | | There is a minimum amount of energy which is necessary to remove an electron from the surface. | | | The energy of a single photoelectron depends only on the frequency of the incident light.
Highest and lowest tides occur during new and full moons. Order of atmosphere= troposphere(where life and weather occurs), stratosphere (ozone layer-blocks ultraviolet radiation best), mesosphere, ionosphere. Most abundant gases are nitrogen, oxygen,
BETA PARTICLES Beta rays are much lighter energy particles. The beta particle is an energetic electron given off by the nucleus of unstable isotopes to restore an energy balance. They leave the nucleus at a speed of 270,000 kilometers per second. They can be stopped, for instance, by an aluminum sheet a few millimeters thick or by 3 meters of air. The RS-500 can detect most energetic beta particles through the case.
The healing properties of this oil were recognized in ancient time. In Italy, France, Greece, Turkey, and Morocco the oil was used as a folk medicine to recover the digestion as a relieve for bladder and skin diseases and a defense from insect stings. It was in the 1950s and 1960s that scientist began to unlock Lauric acid’s healing secrets. The medical researchers on lauric acid and other MCFAs is derived mainly from the tropical oil. As lauric acid has many health benefits, researchers have recently been experimenting with way to raise the amount of it available in our food such as vegetable shortening.
