Is Jesus the Only Savior? Ronald H. Nash Book Critique 1 Is Jesus the Only Savior by Ronald H. Nash is an intellectual comparison of pluralism, inclusivism, and Christian Exclusivism. The key word here is intellectual; at times Mr. Nash may be a little to scholarly for the average lay reader. While he does a great job at imparting a clear understanding of the difference between the three major belief systems this is not a book you would give to a new convert who is new to the Christian faith. In the first six chapters Mr. Nash deals with the subject of pluralism which he defines as, “a person who thinks humans may be saved through a number of different religious traditions and saviors”. Mr. Nash answers the question and makes clear his opinion of the question, “Is Jesus the Only Savior”, with a resounding yes. In the very first chapter he gives a clear definition of Christian Exclusivsm. According to Nash in chapter one Christian Exclusivism is the belief that Jesus Christ is the only Savior, and explicit faith in Jesus Christ is necessary for salvation. After laying the foundation in what he believes he then proceeds to discredit according to him, “the best known and most influential proponent of pluralism today”, John Hick. Chapters two and three Mr. Nash lays a solid foundation of exactly what John Hick’s believes and then starts to systematically remove the layers one by one of the faulty and misguided philosophies of John Hick. According to Mr. Nash John Hicks pluralism came in two stages an early stage which he compared to the Ptolemaic model of the solar system and the second stage which Hick’ s compared to the Copernican Revolution. Hick’s basically moves from a Jesus centered to a God centered religion. In chapter four Mr. Nash shows how Hicks tries to dismantle the basic premise of truth and logic. According to Nash Hicks
