FDR felt that the American government was going to fix all the problems of the people and make their lives improve over time. His ‘New Deal’ plan really stresses this fact. He knew that the people could accomplish anything with just a little coaxing from their leader. Hoover thought that their needed to be less government control and the people had to do some things for themselves. He wanted them to be able to fix their problems themselves and let the government do more important jobs and have to worry about them less.
Close study of a successful play reveals how the dramatist cleverly integrates dramatic techniques, structure and ideas. To what extent does this statement reflect your response to Cosi? The close study of the play Cosi, by Louis Nowra uses a play within a play to cleverly emphasise dramatic techniques, structure and ideas. The use of literary and visual techniques as well as stage directions emphasises these dramatic techniques, ideas and structure. Doing things for self-respect greatly outweighs doing things for material goods and doing so can change ones strength and courage to complete a challenge.
An Inspector Calls In act 1 of inspector calls, how does Priestley use dramatic devices, plot & character to present divisions in society? The play inspector call was written in 1940 by J.B.PRIESTLEY.Priestley was very concerned about socialism and helping others at a time where class divisions meant the divide between rich and poor was huge. He deliberately set the play in 1912 just before the outbreak of WW1. To get his message across, priestly gets the audience’s attention through dramatic devices such as characterisation and surprise. The central figure is the inspector who acts as an instrument for communicating priestly’s views.
“An inspector calls” J.B Priestley’s play ‘’an inspector calls’’ leaves the impression on the audience, no matter what their political views are, that everyone should take responsibility for their own actions. The play was set in 1912 and it leaves a cliff-hanger for the audience as they make their own opinion on who is responsible for ‘Eva smiths’ death as the phone rings, announcing an inspector is on his way!. J.B Priestley crafts a character with selfishness and self centered emotions through the character ‘Mr Birling’. The audience first see this in act one when he says,” a man has to make his own way” but when ‘Eva Smith’ asked for the wage rates to be raised to ‘twenty-five shillings’ a week he refused: ’ I refused of-course’. I think this was wrong of him because Mr Birling has made it in life and had it easy, he does not have to earn a living of a low wage so he doesn’t know what it is like for poor people.
Michel Dean Mahler Chris Ellen Lamb English 111-08 Better Than Average Rough Draft 1/20/2012 Better Than Average “I Just Wanna Be Average” by Mike Rose is the story of every man. It is the story that teaches us all an important lesson…low expectations often produce poor results. The story inspires each of us to strive to see not who you are, but who you have the potential to become in spite of (rather than because of) our circumstances. But in order for this to happen, you must be willing to reach beyond your environment. The story addresses a variety of social and economic issues.
Response Paper #1 “Harrison Bergeron” by Kurt Vonnegut Jr. Passage Selection The first passage I chose that helped me better understand the reading was the line: “If I tried to get away with it, then other people would try to get away with it – and pretty soon we’d be right back to the dark ages again, with everybody competing against everybody else.” It gives you the idea that what we now see in our modern society would have been almost completely incomprehensible to far past centuries. It also makes you wonder if the common desire for equality that we now strive for to make things equal for everyone can be taken too far. The second passage that I felt was important to me was: “Gee- I could tell that one was a doozy,” ”You can say that again.” ”Gee- I could tell that one was a doozy.” This selection was important to me because it gave me a better understanding of the situation. The previous events in the literature were very drastic and sad.
the “bad guys” (Germany and their allies). This has officially removed every obstacle in front of President Wilson’s way to join the war because as he had said before, he did not want to be sided with a tyrant, Russia. All he has to do is say the words and in a second we would be in the War, helping not only our own country, but our long good friends Britain as well. It is not difficult to realize that we don’t have the best army and navy, and that we mobilize slowly, but this is yet another reason for why we should start right here, right now. If we are successful to mobilizing quickly and having a military draft, our army would be almost unstoppable to other nations.
Draft said: "Work or fight." 9] "normalcy" - A return to normalcy was Hardings campain promise. This was big because it ment people didn't like the way that things were going with the War and such. So they elected him because he promised to return things back to normal basically. It also showed the end of progressivism.
A racial change wouldn't be a bad idea but i think most people in the world will disciminate and judge him by the color of his skin. If Dr. Martin Luther King could change the world i believe Obama can too, like Martin Luther King said you shouldnt be judged by the color of your skin only by the contents of your character. People in the U.S. complain all the time about how the world is coming to an end but with one change and everyone works as a team the world could be changed. I believe Barack Obama is that man that could begin the changes. If a change is what United States is looking for that's what they will get if Barack Obama was president of the Country.
