A Humble Source of Inspiration Some people argue that Elvis is still alive, afraid to give up the dream that he is no longer with us to drastically shape our lives. Others make pilgrimages to Graceland just as Muslim devotees’ journey to Mecca in order to pay respects to one they consider just as real and instrumental in their lives a God. The mystery of Elvis makes him so much more compelling than artists that came before, or even after. Maybe it was his humble roots and attitude that he never abandoned even long after he achieved unprecedented heights. Elvis made people believe that they too, could accomplish something extraordinary, even if they were an average citizen. As Bruce Springsteen so delicately puts it, “...it was like he came along and whispered some dream in everybody’s ear, and somehow we all dreamed it.” Little children love visiting Disney World because it is a place filled with dreams, magic, hope, and love, all seemingly attainable. Elvis is Disney World personified for many people, because his outlook on life was so refreshing and full of these ideals that most entertainers don’t bother to cultivate. Elvis humble beginnings helped to shape his personality and appreciate what truly matters in the world. With a strong focus early in his life on faith and spirituality, as well as family ties, Elvis was able to have a strong foundation in his youth growing up in poverty. He was a shy kid, but the love of his family helped to see him through these hard times when he didn’t really fit in (Biography.) When he did eventually reach rock star status, Elvis didn’t resort to a lavish lifestyle filled of excess of self gratification, but rather, graciously gave to people who made his success possible.
