Outline and evaluate explanations for the success/failure in dieting One explanation for the success or failure in dieting can be explained using the “restraint theory.” Restrained eating is a common characteristic of dieting and research shows that 89% of the female population in the UK consciously restrain their food intake in some point of their lives. Herman and Polivy (1894) developed the boundary model in an attempt to explain why dieting may lead to overeating. According to this model, hunger keeps intake of food above a certain minimum, and satiety works to keep intake below some maximum level. Dieters tend to have a larger range between hunger and satiety levels as it takes them longer to feel hungry and more food to satisfy them. Restrained eaters have a self-imposed desired intake.
Unit 4222-366 (DEM 302) Outcome 1 1. Describe how cognitive, functional and emotional changes associated with dementia can affect eating, drinking and nutrition. Firstly I will look at cognitive in reference to eating, drinking and nutrition. Some people with dementia can suffer from clinical depression and this would be a cognitive change, as an affect of depression the appetite of an individual will be affected and this may lead to someone having a small or no appetite and under eating this may lead to malnutrition and dehydration, or someone having an increase appetite which will cause over eating and may lead to someone gaining weight or becoming obese which carries many health conditions. Secondly, functional changes that may occur with someone with dementia is that they may have had a stroke or have weakness in using limbs which would affect them using utensils such as a knife and fork for instance not having the strength to lift the fork to their mouth.
This makes them directly correlated to the current trends in the prevalence of obesity. According to Friel (2009) inequity which results to social profiles has resulted to increased prevalence in obesity. The affluent, with good income spend much eating junk foods and doing less exercise. The underprivileged on the other hand are bound by illiteracy, poor social amenities, retrogressive cultures and unemployment. This makes both groups vulnerable to obesity as they indulge in unplanned and bad eating habits.

Advertisement Comparison and Contrast In the magazine “Mix Mag” I’ve chosen two completely different ads comparing and contrasting the rhetorical strategies employed within them referring to ethos which is an appeal to ethics, and it is a means of convincing someone of the character or credibility of the persuader. Secondly pathos, which is an appeal to emotion, and is a way of convincing an audience of an argument by creating an emotional response. Lastly logos, which is an appeal to logic, and is a way of persuading an audience by reason. One of the two ads that I have chosen to compare and contrast from within “Mix mag magazine” is campaigning the well-known “Diesel” brand. This ad primarily focuses on pathos only.
Dying to be Thin Melanie Hogan HCA 415 Professor Clark April 15, 2013 Dying to be Thin Living in a society that is infatuated with being thin and sex appeal, it is obvious why eating disorders are so prominent in the United States. Food- related disorders including Bulimia, binge eating, and food phobias are becoming more common, but the leading eating disorder in the United States is Anorexia Nervosa (Anorexia for short). Anorexia is a severe eating disorder, in which an individual drastically reduces their calorie intake to the point of starvation. Although, Anorexia can affect anyone of any color at any time in their life, its primary target is adolescent and young adult females. The cause of this disorder is unknown, but people
Sometimes people do things without thinking about their health. That’s why having overeating habits is very bad and can cause obesity. Both readings, “The Wages of Sin” and “In Gorging, Truth” support comparisons that are effective in different ways. Both reading give examples of how people affected by society and this can cause health issues. That’s why they tend to overeat and get overweight.
Eating disorders are triggered by emotions just like eating signals are. “Current studies evaluated the mediating roles of appetite awareness and emotional awareness in a brief eating disorders prevention programs designed to help participants identify and respond to internal appetite signals.” (Brown, 2010) There are some people who may use food as a form a comfort and they just eat large amounts of food because they are upset. People who are overweight tend to have emotional triggers when someone makes comments about their weight. There are also those who will binge eat or eat a large meal and then induce vomiting in order to get rid of the large amount of calories their just took in. Many clients could start to feel down on themselves and use that food for comfort; however, there are those who have the reverse effect and when they are depressed they choose not to eat food at all.
Such stressors include increased exposure to television advertisements for unhealthy foods, unsafe neighborhoods which inhibit outdoor play and exercise, and limited availability of healthy, fresh foods in low socioeconomic residential areas (Galvez 2003). These are just a few of the factors that contribute to obesity in minorities, which cause concern for the overall health of minority youth. Obesity-related health problems reported by Kumanyika and Grier (2006) which can be "seen in children include precursors of cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes, and sleep disordered breathing. Ethnic minority and low-income children appear to be more likely to experience some of the obesity-related health problems" (p. 191). In effect, the largest threat to the overall health of American minority groups
