Introduction Violence in the media is one of the most common and dangerous form of infrastructure which has a major affect on children right from the very beginning, all from the comfort of their own home. Children are continuously exposed to many forms of violent acts which are depicted within the media everyday. This can be from something as simple as a cartoon character in a tv show lashing out, to a realistic murder in a tv show or video game. As children get older, the over exposure to these materials can lead to children developing certain psychological behaviours which they use in everyday life without even realizing it. Violence in the media cause children-teens in particular-to become aggressive towards others-especially when they are under a lot of stress. Violence in the media also desensitizes teens to the real thing and leads to normalization. Teens view so many acts of violence each day, they begin to think that the real thing is okay and a normal part of society. Boys are also more likely to be influenced violence in the media than girls. How Violence in the Media Affects Children Violence in the media continues to increase in terms of both quantity and realism each year. By the age of 18, children have viewed more than 200, 000 acts of violence and 16, 000 murders (Coeur, T., Rawes, C., & Warecki, P., 2012, p. 139). One such example is that of the Joker from Batman. Throughout the last 50 years, the Joker has become more and more violent with a costume that continues to grow more and more sinister with each new edition. At first, this may not seem like a big deal since we currently live within these statistics and have grown up with and gotten used to their effects.
