The war was also known as the American War of Independence because it was a war that forced Great Britain to acknowledge the independence of the U.S. thirteen British colonies. When Washington and his soldiers were in Valley Forge, he was upset with the living conditions they had because he knew that the soldiers left their families behind and put their lives on the line to fight in the war for freedom and liberty for the thirteen colonies and in return, the soldiers should have been giving better living conditions. The soldiers got sick from the cold temperature and from a lack of food supply. They were too sick and too weak to fight and
