The fact that there is a rise of New Religious Movements gaining status and becoming well known in society could be a reason for the view that Sects and Cults are more important than the church as it losing members and attendance is declining. Due to modernity, people are becoming individualistic in terms of that they are doing things to benefit themselves rather than society. An example of this is the young of today who believe in spirituality as it aims to improve the individual. Stark and Bainbridge see sects and cults as promising other-worldly benefits in heaven and in this present life like good health, and because of this people would rather follow these new religious movements than churches because the individuals need of feeling to have a better life not and after death brings them comfort as they would be free from the oppression that they are faced with in society today. However it can be argued that just because the attendance of church members are declining does not mean that other Religious and Spiritual movements are taken their place as statistics show that there is still a lot of people that believe in God and still use the church for events such as baptism, weddings and funerals etc.
Perhaps more so than Emotivists, Prescriptivists see ethical language as fairly meaningful. They believe that the terms used are able to create absolute rules that everyone ought to follow. It would seem that ethical language is seen by many as very meaningful, although for varying reasons. However agent centred theories such as Virtue Ethics would argue that our main focus of morality should be on becoming as virtuous as possible, rather than deciding what is meant by ethical language. Therefore it would seem that perhaps morality should be more focussed on individuals’ actions rather then defining what is meant by ‘good’ and
Consequentialism, Deontology and Virtue Ethics are the three most popular ethical theories in modern society. However, the question of which ethical theory is most convincing arises a huge topic for debate and the answer depends on individuals’ thoughts and opinions on the issue. Basically, Consequentialism states that an action is right hf it promotes the best consequences, Deontology states that an action is right if it is in accordance with a moral rule or principle, and Virtue Ethics states that an action is right if it is what a virtuous person would do in the circumstances. Based on these definitions of these theories, I find Virtue Ethics to be the most convincing. Virtue ethics emphasizes the role of one's character and the virtues that one's character embodies for determining or evaluating ethical behavior.
Moral: Envy and greed lead to Jack’s devolution. Jack envies Ralph’s power and he wants that power and control over the boys (greed). To an extent, Ralph represents the good/civilization in people, while Jack represents the bad/savagery. Whenever Jack and Ralph are arguing, it shows how the bad and the good of a person are always fighting, always wanting to come out victorious. When Jack gains the support of the boys, this shows that everyone has evil inside of them, but it's usually held back unless something triggers it to come out.
The weaknesses could be their belief in free will is in opposition to the deterministic laws of science or the issues they investigate, such as consciousness and emotion, are amongst the most difficult to objectively study. In counselling I believe there is a higher chance to address individual’s needs as client centered therapy works on a one to one basis. This specifically enables the individual services users’ needs to be met. To enable client centered therapy I believe a good counsellor is needed without a judgmental approach. Also the service provider is needed to have empathy and know how to sympathise with the client.
Imediantly showing Mr Birling’s personality, which is selfish. Then he goes on and saying, “There isn’t a chance of war” this dramamtic irony leads the audience into looking forward to seeing Mr Birling being prove wrong. In addition, this shows Mr Birling’s thoughts on responsibilities are wrong. Saying this, the sudeience should not agree with him and his thoughts on responsibilies due to the examples of dramatic irony. After he had finished his speech on keeping labour cost down and profit high, Inspector Goole enters and throws a shocking news at the Birlings.
And this bad thing leads him to death finally. Willa Cather shows that the wrong way causes a bad ending. Her idea is important to all people, because many people try to get their future in many different ways, but they only pursuing their desire, not think about the consequences. Through this story, I learned that there is no simple way, only the effort is best way to accomplish my
This staple of his beliefs is why he doesn't fear death, but in fact looks forward to it. By escaping he is committing an unjust act against the state, and committing unjust acts ruins the soul. With a ruined soul there is no point in living life as the soul is the only important thing, not the body. Therefore the most important thing is not only living life, but living a just life. While Socrates arguments may be sound in his opinion, I'm not sure if I agree with them.
One major strength of virtue ethics is that it allows the moral agent to make ethical decisions based on his or her moral well-being, not just based on what is legally right. Therefore this ethical system can be seen to have a greater weight over others as someone who follows it are doing so because they believe it’s right rather than following rules. This then also acknowledges that morality is complex and so rejects simplistic maxims as a basis for moral truths. However, this can also be seen to be one of the weaknesses of virtue ethics. Robert Louden stated that as virtue ethics is focused on the individual, it neither resolves nor attempts to resolve big moral dilemmas.
These particular differences either become more distinctive themselves as the person grows up, or orientate the person to enhance them in his education (ibid.). This proves that intelligence orientation is not influenced by the environment. It is often argued that hardworking is more important than talent in one’s achievements. While this is true, it is important to recognise that hardworking results from the passion of a person
