In 1943, the United States was the midst of World War II, the draft had taken many of the county’s men to fight, leaving their families, jobs, hobbies and the like. Major League Baseball had taken a hit with many of its best men off to war. “A League of Their Own” reenacts the story of women gaining the opportunity to take baseball from the local level to the professional level while the men were away to keep the sport alive and to make “a buck or two”. Critics have assimilated this movie with women’s liberation, getting out of the home and onto the field.
