The All-American Girls Professional Baseball League was popular in the years 1943-1954. The movie A League of Their Own was based on the AAGPBL, how it started and how the league was continuously growing its’ fans. Watching this movie showed issues that came about from World War II and issues of inequality. Throughout the movie about the women’s baseball teams there is a rising issue of gender inequality. Many examples from the movie can also be seen in the article “More Than the Usual Variety of Curves”.
Many were killed, many loved ones had died and many were mentally moved. The Flag Raising at Iwo Jima taken by Joe Rosenthal helped those people who lost and helped Americans get through this war. Memorial based on this picture was made and it was put into more museums than one could count. It was not only a picture to show the real war, but it served as a propaganda to the USA. Pictures can win awards not wars, but that is exactly what this picture did for the U.S in 1945.
Some women “felt they were needed at home to raise families, crops for food and to fill the jobs that the men had vacated in order to serve their country.”(Suite101) Women’s lives on the home front during World War II were a significant part of the war effort for all participants and had a major impact on the outcome of the war. Once the men went off to war and left their jobs, the women that were single had a great advantage because job opportunities were everywhere. In the other hand married women had a tough time, especially if they had children. Hundreds of women worked in machine shops, welding shops, manufacturing plants, and also worked in war industries to make equipment for the war. New industries, naval, and army bases were being built during the home front.
Meaning since most men had gone to war, nobody else but women were able to fill men's daily roles. This was very important during world war II because the U.S. needed people to work on the unemployment jobs, especially the jobs relating to the war. This propaganda in my opinion is very convincing to women. Its convincing because women knew that if they didn't help, their husbands and family members might not return back.The picture displays the lady wearing a red rag on her head, the He is white and she is wearing a blue working uniform. I believe this is representing the U.S. and its demonstrating her pride for the country.
In this paper, I will argue for Butler’s view on how certain gender performance is restricted in these numerous fields, and how Ms. Butler would object to these various situations. In the opening statement of Gender Trouble, Butler states, “feminist theory has assumed that there is some existing identity, understood through the category of women, who initiates feminist interests and goals.” (CITE GENDER TROUBLE PAGE 1 HERE) By this quote, she explains that feminist theory created the problem that it represents, while at the same time preventing its own progression. She supports this claim with her primary example of gender restriction in the field of representation in politics. Although this problem has no surefire resolution, it is suggested that in order for women to have true political visibility, the development of an identity that truly represents one as an individual is key. Butler suggests the following theory as a solution to these multifaceted complications.
World War I affected many people during its time of war. WWI was known as the war that ended without any country knowing why it started in the first place. From the mid 1914 to late 1918, the lives of women and men changed for the better. The war impacted the men who had to leave their job to support the battle and the women who kept up with the jobs in order to keep the war running.
