Future Trends in Crisis Intervention Tonia Tamayo BSHS 471 July 23, 2012 Patricia Robinson Future Trends in Crisis Intervention When a couple chooses to bring a child in to this world, they hope to provide a comfortable and safe environment for the child. The parents teach the child to develop strong habits and how to deal with challenging situations (Gentry, 1994). As the children grown into adults, the greatest tools a parent can teach the children is independence and how to be self sufficient. Teaching these characteristics will be fundamental factors that contribute to the health and development of the child (Gentry, 1994). Parents are struggling today to teach children independence and responsibility. Society has created the idea that it is acceptable to live depending on programs created by the government to help families struggling (Gentry, 1994). Schools are taking away the programs that help teach children ways to be self-sufficient. Children are not learning skills to cope with every day environments. Children are not learning self sufficiency. When a child is faces a crisis situation, he or she does not comprehend how to cope with the situation. Programs need to be implemented back into the school system to not only to help the children cope, but to prevent the crisis situation in the beginning (Gentry, 1994). The idea is to teach children and adults how to recognize danger signs and prevent the crisis from happening. Teach skills to cope with the situations before the situations reach the crisis stage (Gentry, 1994). Prevent diseases or injuries through immunizations and safety measures. Take children for well child check ups to catch any issues before they get out of control (Gentry, 1994). Adults can be screened to detect health issues before they become untreatable.
