The majority of these laborers were men. The scarcity of women made families on these plantations even scarcer. The laborers lived in quarters, which were anywhere from ten or fifteen workers living together in one or two buildings. Each quarter was supervised by an American overseer, who was in charge of his ten or fifteen slaves and was responsible to make sure that their share of work gets done. Each slave was expected to cultivate about two acres of tobacco a year, which meant a lot of hard work almost every day.
The slaves were the the main workers of this time and there were many of them in Brazil, “about 812,000 Slaves,” (Robert Conrad pg. 1). Before the Protuguese came and brought afican slaves, slaves in africa had a better life. They were given shelter and food from their owners and if lucky you were given an education. Also slave in africa were able to work there way out of slavery.

After reading " And then I Went to School," and "College Pressures", its evident that the word education is viewed differently depending on the "students" background. In the short story " And then I Went to School," the purpose of education to ____ was a lot different then those of the white people. Joseph Suina found that the purpose of education in the white men village was to fit in with them and learn their ways and traditions of life. Although this is not what Joesph wanted he was forced this new education upon him. Joseph believed that his education came for his grandmother, learning how to cook, clean, and take care of his family.
John Doe University of Phoenix Prof. Law Handy The Learning Curve Theory Novermber 3, 2012 Process Improvement Plan Over the past five weeks I have collected data on the process of making dinner for my family each night. In week one, I spend on an average of two and half hours going to the store prepping the food and cooking by myself. I cooked something different each night so the prep and cook times varied. I would also go to the store each day after work because it was on the way home. I broke each step down in my process of cooking dinner.
The first thing could be getting tickets which would hurt me in the pocket book which I couldn’t afford and second result could be jail/prison. I go there to see my husband because he has not obey the law before and I don’t want to live the way he has to so I obey the laws. We also obey laws because we all benefit from them. Protection of life and property, security of peace, welfare, etc. I don’t steal because I don’t want to be stolen.
No two of us were children of the same father." As a house slave he was better treated than the field workers: "I was a house servant - a situation preferable to that of a field hand, as I was better fed, better clothed, and not obliged to rise at the ringing of the bell, but about half an hour after." When he was a child his master moved to Saint Charles, Missouri. "My master owned about forty slaves, twenty-five of whom were field hands... in addition to his practice
This then causes individuals to lose their creativity because they are always trying to fit in with others instead of expressing what is on their mind. There will always be those rebels and individualists who do not rely on the opinion of others and go their own route and pursue what they want in life. There are those who are obedient to society and never want to be different while there are others who are disobedient and do not conform to the social norms just to fit in. Individuals show their individualism by being different than others and not following the same style of living as the organization man; which is having a nice car, nice job, and following what the social norm is; therefore individuals who do not do that are being disobedient to conformity. Disobedience is needed in order for a person to express their individualism or else they are taken as the “organization man” who conforms to society just to be part of a social norm, which is wrong because then the world will never advance and have new concepts since everyone is playing the same role in society.
