Florence Nightingale develops an understanding that the environment directly affects a patient’s wellbeing over 100 years ago; her observations are still relevant in today’s healthcare environments. Many public and community health problems could be avoided by application of her theory. Many health promotion programs are based on the application of her theory. The basis for reducing risks of cholera outbreaks in Haiti are all grounded on applying Nightingale’s theory. Nurses and health care providers implement aspects from a few different canons into the process of aiding in infection control and prevention of cholera in Haiti.
Federal Disaster Planning and Relief Policy Meghan Cline American National Government: POL 201 Instructor Angela Hermosillo May 22, 2013 When a natural disaster strikes, it is natural for others who were not affected to want to help by donating money, shelter, clothing, or even rebuild communities and cities. We come together as a nation and care for one another. Knowing that it could have been us in that position or that it could possibly be in the future. The different levels of government have their duties as well when it comes to aiding when Mother Nature strikes. Federal, state, and local governments pre-plan and prepare for disasters hoping to be better prepared when events like tornados, hurricanes, or wildfires take place.
A Patient’s Bill of Rights was adopted in 1973 by the American Hospital Association in order to be able to provide effective health care services that are fair to both patient and medical personnel. June was hospitalized for severe anorexia and she initially agreed to have a feeding tube placed to save her life. I am sure her physicians informed her of the pros and cons of the placement of the feeding tube. According to the summary of the Florida Patient’s Bill of Rights and Responsibilities within our textbook “a patient has the right to refuse treatment” (Showalter, p. 272). When she was in her right state of mind she consented to treatment.
These beliefs, values, and practices influence the health promotion and disease prevention in which they seek (Edelman & Mandle, 2010). The assessment of these practices is an essential role nurse’s play in caring for each individual and family. By using the family focused approach the nurse can determine the support and care a family can provide to the patient. The nurse can then assess the family’s potential of obtaining optimal health. The purpose of this paper is for the nurse to complete a health assessment of a family by using Gordon’s 11 functional health patterns and the system’s approach.
Reflective Account of supervised management placement. Introduction. The student nurse hopes with this assignment to allow the reader an insight into my experience during my management placement within a busy rehabilitation ward in Wishaw General. With the guidance and supervision of my mentor I participated in all areas of running a busy rehab ward. The student nurse will reflect on health promotion issues as this stood out to me in several areas, The student nurse discovered that although we can nurse a patient back to health it is so important to make the patient aware of how necessary it is for them to participate in their care by adhering to what is recommended to them by various members of the Multidisciplinary Team and the devastating consequences that the patient can encounter if advice is ignored.
