Five Important Communication Concepts “The problem of effective communication is unfortunately greater than just the recognition of its scale and importance.”(Diwan, 2000) Everday we engage in some form of communication. For example, we engage in communication with colleagues while at work by email or while we are in line in the cafteria. We communicate by responding to instant messages or by answering our telephones. Indeed, communication is a way of life inside and outside of an organizational setting. Effective communication is the key ingredient to an organizational success and productivity. In fact, effective communication is the foundation that glues the organizational together. Lucrative organizations rely on effective communication skills from it management team down to it employees. Communication provides an open channel toward productive outcomes and successes in organizational settings. Peterson (1962) observes that, “Communication can and does affect work adversely if not properly handled. There are graduations of degrees of these effects, ranging from a slight drag against the progress of the enterprise to the causing of errors or misunderstanding of the philosophical. Foundation of the main organization, and thereby make the output of the system virtually impossible,” stating further that, “one ever-present cause of faulty communication is that, language, whether oral or written, is itself faulty or imperfection when the meaning of words and sentences and equally the emotional content is ambiguous.” I will be proposing a new communication structure for my current organization “Shell Oil”. I will write a formal proposal in which I will discuss five concepts that I feel are most important for successful communication within an organizational setting.
