First Day of a Job

‘First Day’ My first ‘real’ job (excluding my paper boy round of course) was at a store named TJ Hueghs in the suburbs of London in a place called Sutton. The store sold pretty much anything you can think of; televisions, clothes, toys, garden furniture, you name it they had it. Three weeks prior to my starting date at TJ Hueghs I celebrated my16th birthday, along with the news explaining that I had been successful in obtaining the job in which I was scheduled to work every Sunday Morning from nine to one. It was Sunday morning on the 16th of December 2009; clear blue skies, fresh cold air, it was alike to any winters Sunday morning; but no, this was my first day at TJ Hueghs. I was so nervous, I had no idea what to expect, or what sort of things I would be made to do. My mum dropped me off, and I was preparing to make my first steps into an unknown territory. I walked in and was greeted by my new manager, he seemed relatively nice, and showed me how to get to the staff / break room where all the lockers where and explained how everything worked there. It was going so well, and I was starting to feel more relaxed about things, this was until he assigned me to the dreaded checkouts. I had received limited training, how was I supposed to deal with all those customers? Plus, it was always so busy; I was petrified. The shop was full, there were roughly around 200 people in the store, and they were lined like dominos to the checkouts. I was on with one other person, a guy named James, who I had met before at my till training, he tried to give me advice, and tell me how quick it went by and that I would be fine, this was nice, but in all honesty I was shitting myself. So I used my personal store code to log in to the till and prepared myself for my first customer, almost trembling, I mumbled those words “next please”. I looked up and a large, elderly woman
