The Role of the Filipino Youth in Nation-Building When we hear or see the word “Nation-Building what usually comes into our mind? Well as what I’ve understand in what I read in an article, nation-building is the development of our own language, behaviors and institutions that explain the history and culture of our country, protect the present and insure the future identity and independence of the nation. And for that to happen we, the Filipino youth has a big role in nation-building. As a human we have different kinds of role in the nation and one of this is to become an effective good leader, for us to have a progressive nation, we need to be a responsible person, because we can’t have a progressive nation if we’re not responsible enough, but we must begin to our selves. And in order for us to become a
Morals concern what is right and wrong. Right and wrong usually vary depending on what is normal in a specific culture or society. Many people would agree that what is “right” is moral, but it is James Rachels that explores what makes something right. Rachels argues that it is the cultural normality’s of a society itself, that makes an action morally right, while others would disagree and claim that there is a set of “universal moral codes” that people should live by. In different societies and cultures what is morally right and wrong can be determined only within the individual mind of a person.
Now, they expanded on that notion to encompass the world, saying that it was their "duty" to help lower nations. There was opposition in the form of Anti-Imperialists and they rose to this. In this way, expansionism was mainly a departure, only keeping a single idea, in terms of geography, economics, and politics. In their new expansion, the US decided to move from North America to land elsewhere in the
Ethical issues vary from legal issues because ethical issues are individualistic and legal issues are embodied in a system that governs society. The legal system gives continuous guidance regardless of the ethical issues involves (Guido, 2010). Personal values are individual thoughts about an idea, object, or a belief. Individuals communicate their needs through values, Rassin, (2008) states that, “social science considers values a key motivator for human behavior.” Personal values are derived from family teachings, religious beliefs, and societal. “Personal values are basic motivation beliefs about desirable modes or outcomes of individual behavior” (Rassin, 2008, p. 8).
A World View is a set of shared beliefs and values by a community with a similar background. This means that a persons World View may differ depending on the community they grew up in. Julia Hobson defines World View ‘as a set of beliefs that we hold and through which we organise our understanding of ourselves and our understanding of others’ (Hobson, 1996). This means that our World View shapes who we are and how we view the world around us. We don’t have any control as to what our World View is it is solely a result of our class, gender, race, education and religion.
4) The importance of cultural relativism is that it brings the society to pursue their own desires toward their beliefs, values, and behaviors. The strengths toward cultural relativism are that it helps people try new things and encourage life in a different way. The weaknesses would be that conflict can be involved when speaking about culture. It does not allow any cultural comparisons because it is a product of the people and the environment. Cultural relativism is a product of history and that’s why the society has many different cultural
Josiah Royce loyalty theory requires you to scrutinize the actions and aims of our communities and others and to work to reform the disloyal aspects. The philosophy of loyalty calls upon us to embrace and create more cosmopolitan and inclusive communities. However any human community no matter how devoted they may be to loyalty, is not going to be perfect and may even fall
I expect myself, and others, to be honest, to be cadets with integrity, and to exemplify ethical behavior. I know that everything I do in and out of JROTC is a reflection on the corps. As a Filipino citizen, I know too that my actions will reflect on our nation. I am prepared to meet the high goals that will keep our country moving
The missionaries influence became an important stepping-stone in the transition toward westernization. Now, Hawaii was officially "westernized": socially, through the "work" of the missionaries, politically through the overthrow of the Hawaiian Kingdom, and economically through over-dependency on the sugar industry. The actions of these events, as well as their results, were the main proceedings that prove Hawaiians did not adopt western ways, but instead were forced to conform to them. Hawaiians did not understand this concept of land ownership and because of their lack of knowledge in western policies they were quickly taken advantage of. So we should ask ourselves, is Hawaii picture perfect culture really as unique and diverse as it says it is, or was our history so tainted by societal pressures of the United States
What is civility? Many of us grew up hearing the phrase ‘treat everyone the way you would like to be treated’. There is a growing realization that our inability to deal with a broad range of problems is related to the destructive ways in which the issues are being addressed. This raises a crucial and increasingly controversial question: What exactly do we mean by "civility"? Civility is defined as the cultivation of habits of personal living that are claimed to be important for the success of the community.
