A World View is a set of shared beliefs and values by a community with a similar background. This means that a persons World View may differ depending on the community they grew up in. Julia Hobson defines World View ‘as a set of beliefs that we hold and through which we organise our understanding of ourselves and our understanding of others’ (Hobson, 1996). This means that our World View shapes who we are and how we view the world around us. We don’t have any control as to what our World View is it is solely a result of our class, gender, race, education and religion. Our World View can change but again even that is not in our control and is based on the events and experience that occur throughout our life. Throughout this essay I will explain that your World View can differ depending on your background and upbringing. My own World View has developed by a number of different factors throughout my life such as my education, the fact that I grew in up in an Anglo-Saxon, Middle Class family and was raised in the catholic faith. This has shaped my World View by providing me with the dominant World View in the western civilisation such as a belief in science and democracy. And as everyone in my family is University educated I’ve also been taught that education is paramount to having a decent and stable future. As such I am determined to achieve as many qualifications as I can and learn as much as I can in order to ensure myself as stable future. My family also installed in me a strong belief in hard work in achieving the life that I want; they never sugar coated things for me and have always been brutally honest. This has made me determined to achieve along with causing me to have a competitive streak. This view however may differ from someone who grew up in a poorer family who doesn’t hold education in such high regard and would’ve never deemed it to be
