Once they got home and were having the locks changed, Jean became immediately angry they sent a “gang member” and wanted the locks changed in the morning. Because of his appearance, which consisted of a shaved head, “prison” tattoos and pants hanging off his butt, she was positive he would go sell the keys to his “amigos.” These somewhat inaccurate stereotypes by Jean were supported from historical and socially constructed events. Since most men who are imprisoned are African American, to Jean and other members of society, this means all black men are criminals and one must be fearful of them. Another racial discrimination happened when locksmith Michael Peña was changing the door in Brendan Fraser and Sandra Bullock’s home. Since she was upset by the carjacking, she noticed Michael Peña is a Mexican-American with tattoos on his arm, the first vision she had made was gang tattoos.
Samuels’s innocence is corrupted when he becomes in contact with the city life and crime. When the corrupted policemen’s are looking for book in the Amish world they find obstacles. When John book moves to the Amish world and falls in love with Rachel, he faces many problems and suffers from confection because he knows he doesn’t belong there. We are shown that Samuel is in conflict with the world around him when he enters the city of Philadelphia and loses his innocent when he witnesses a murder at the train station. The director shows this by the sounds and angles of the camera during scenes and by the way many people talk at once shows the differences of life between the city and the peacefulness of Samuels home.
While I would not say Dr. Hill’s argument is absolutely false-there are exceptions to every rule, I would say he is misguided with how much power a fence possesses. For the most part, Fences are creatures of opportunity; Fences didn’t create the thief, the thief created the fence by stealing in the first place. While some fences do finance, plan, and train thieves-these fences are a rare breed. The vast majority of fences merely act as businessmen and buy merchandise as it comes in “No questions asked”. Before I share my views on how to reduce crime, let me explain why I disagree with some of Dr. Hill’s arguments.
He has a low morality and immaturity. Clyde is low in moral because he commits crime in the name of poverty instead of taking effort in a proper way such as legally working in a company. He has self-righteousness for being a robber as he sees himself as a justifiable hero. His ideology of justice is based only on a children book story, Robin Hood (Cawelti and Free 102). His judgment is based on Robin Hood’s judgment as well, who is portrayed to be a hero in the storybook for stealing money from the avaricious people only.
They feared Richard, and some of the white people felt it necessary to act out their racist feelings in order to cover up their fear. White coworkers beat Richard because his boss was kind to him. Richard later had to leave a good job because those racist co-workers would “kill” him. When the principal at Richard’s school had asked Richard to give a speech to a large audience of white and black people, Richard refused to read the principal’s prepared speech. By reading the principal’s speech, Richard was saying what the white power wanted him to say and to Richard this would be giving in to the very thing he hated so much.
He is almost completely shunned from the town because he is trying to help a black man accused of rape. Mayella had told Tom, “I said come here, nigger, and bust up this chiffarobe for me, I gotta nickel for you.” (p.241) She had tricked him to coming over to her. Then that’s about the time when she accuses him of rape. He had felt sorry for her, which is why he was falsely accused in the first place. Courthouse segregation was one of the biggest bits of racism I found in this book.
They start off by stealing his bag and planting his maths teacher Mr Macallan’s wallet in it knowing he would get the blame because he couldn’t explain why it was there. They then steal their year’s report cards from the head of years office blaming it on Malarkey and they then only have to wait to see if he stays at Brook High or not, but while they await this verdict John Malarkey becomes more a threat to ‘the tailors’ than they are to him. The first Characteristic we hear of Malarkey in the book is that he is quite aggressive my evidence of this is “Come here I snarled as I grabbed his arm, hauling him into the empty classroom” This makes me think he is aggressive because he sounds as if he cant hold his anger so becomes aggressive towards Simon Penn. Also the fact that he hauled him into the empty classroom where hauled tells me that Malarkey physically threw Simon into the empty classroom. Another characteristic that builds the character of Malarkey is he is adamant “I might get to hear a few secrets if people believed I was a Tailor” This makes me feel he is adamant because it tells us he is eager to find out more about who he is dealing with (the Tailors).So he resorts to taking a member of the gangs black Adidas trainers because he knows that the trainers are like a trait or a symbol of the
I would describe organized crime as groups of people taking the time to commit criminal activity without being caught by law enforcement officers. I have in the past thought about the mafia or drug cartels concerning organized crime. I had never given much thought to gangs being a part of organized crime. Many organized crime groups have law enforcement and politicians on their payroll, which disturbs me. The very people whose job is to protect society will deceive people to make illegal money.
Big Police corruption happens in big cities like New York (NY) or Los Angeles (LA) when a group of Police Officers want to make more money so they decide to take the money of the criminals when they arrest them. In big cities about one fourth of the police could be corrupt. Many of which get caught do it because they have the power to take money and drugs and get away with it because they are the police. The bad guys are not going to report the police for taking there drugs and money because they would get in trouble for having the drugs and then they wouldn’t be able to prove that the money was theirs so they wouldn’t get it back anyways. What the corrupt police would do was they would take the drugs from the drug dealers and then sell the drugs back to them because they would get in more trouble by the drug provider.
