EVIDENCE BASED RESEARCH
INTRODUCTION
Evidence based clinical decision making is effective and crucial in ensuring positive outcomes in diverse clinical settings. According to Burns and Grove (2010) evidence based practice is paramount in the delivery of high quality, cost-effective care and patient values. In addition, nurses are obligated by the Nursing and Midwifery Council (2008) to adhere to best available evidence as it maximizes effects of clinical judgement. It is essential for nurses to have the knowledge of critiquing research to deliver enhanced care on patients (Royal College of Nursing 2012).
This assignment, written as a report, will focus on obesity, paying particular attention on moving and handling. The author of this assignment was interested in equipments used on obese patients therefore formulated a question, 'How does the lack of equipment for moving and handling affect bariatric patients and staffing injury?'.
The search process of the research article in appendix B will be clarified followed by the critical appraisal of a research study focusing on ethical issues, sampling, data collection, data analysis and conclusion from the study. The author shall reflect upon the study if the evidence is suitable for practice. The conclusion of the assignment will integrate and summarise main issues covered in the main body.
SEARCH PROCESS
The author used the PICO model to search for a suitable article on data base. PICO is a principle which has four parts which aids to identify the patient problem or population (P), the intervention (I), comparison (C), and then the outcome (O) (Graig and Smith 2007). Formulating a researchable question is fundamental to the evidence based decision making process (Gerrish and Lacey 2010).
