1) Explain ways in which risk is an integral part of everyday life? Due to human nature and our requirements to survive we actually have little choice but to take risks, most of these are minor and not often considered because they are done on a daily basis. We face risks in most activities or tasks, even getting out of bed in the morning actually comes with it’s own risks, once awake and active the number of risks we take increase and are multiplied depending on our lifestyle. While some of us are more prone to taking risks, even in a mundane life and for someone who isn’t considered a “Risk taker”, the number of risks that must be taken is actually quite large. Accident statistics from ROSPA show that the home is full of risks in our everyday lives: More accidents happen at home than anywhere else Every year there are approximately 4000 deaths as the result of a home accident. Around 120 of these are below 15 years and 1300 over 75 During 2002 there were 2.7million home accidents requiring hospital treatment While it is often considered more dangerous outside the home, the above statistics show that even before leaving your home your life is surrounded by risks and risk taking. While we often only consider perceived or inherently dangerous activities, tasks or occupations to be “risky”, it is clear that when you take a closer look at this on a broader scale that we are surrounded by risks in most everything we do, where ever we go. We subconsciously manage these risks but none the less they are there. Crossing the road, driving a car even down to walking down the pavement, all full of risks; people get run over, cars crash, people trip and fall while walking.
