Establish Ground Rules

Explain How To Establish Ground Rules With Learners To Promote Respect For Others. Ground rules are a set of rules, boundaries, responsibilities and appropriate behaviours expected from teacher and student. This is so everyone has the chance of an equal learning experience and the lessons should run with no disruption giving the opportunity of respect for others and the teacher. Ground rules are best set from the first day so the teacher and student will know what to expect from each other from the start. Grounds rules can be achieved in a few ways. I could start with a few of my own ideas on the white board such as punctuality, diversity, equality and mobiles on silent. Then get them to shout out other ideas. Another way is to break down the group into smaller groups to brainstorm some ground rules themselves and feedback as a group. Once all ideas are considered and mutually agreed by both parties they should be written up and every student gets a copy and one copy can be put on display for the duration of the course. I think ground rules need to be made up from both parties so no one has ownership of these rules. If I the teacher set down ground rules many students would feel I was enforcing rules onto them and more than likely to break the rules and rebel. Letting the learners come up with the ground rules they will want to commit themselves more as we all came up with the rules together. As a teacher, my ground rules will be to ensure that I will be fully prepared for the class, be punctual with start and finishing times for each session and make sure comment sheets are completed in time. I would also make sure not to put down anyone, encourage the students, assist in team work, help with course completion, be professional and honest, be non-judgemental and will keep my own personal development and knowledge in dog grooming up to date by going on seminars
