Driving Age Alicia Handley Period 3 Does a 16 year old child truly have enough responsibility and maturity to obtain the right of being behind a wheel, clutching the lives of many in his or her hands? This question is a highly debatable subject among American citizens, and people all across the world. Despite the staggering statistics and the supporters of increasing the legal driving age, I believe that raising the driving age is not a necessary action to take. I think that driving is about experience and not age, and changing the driving age would impair a teenagers and parents freedom. Also, it is impossible to make generalizations about an age groups maturity and mental development, and it isn’t fair to do this.
I am not saying they would not get them, but it would be more difficult to find them. Cons for gun control are that if they ban some clips for a .22 rifle, I would not be able to keep my magazine unless they rule that a big clip is smaller than a certain number. Some people would disagree that having any kind of gun control is bad. The big gun enthusiasts think that nothing is going to change except for the temper of the
Colorado is one of the only states in the Union that does not support Jessica’s Law, or the safety of children. The fact that these Liberal states won’t take a law like this seriously just shows the way our country is heading. It is clear that frivolous issues such as the legalization of marijuana are far more important to Colorado than the safety of children or else they would pass Jessica’s law and stop making excuses about their laws being tough enough. Colorado is now a place where sex offenders and perverts flock, over 10,000 of them in that state alone; and sadly, the number keeps growing (Gidenko). Again this number could be even higher, but due to the fact their law does NOT require them to register, how do law abiding citizens of that great state know?
The teenage mind is not ready to take up on such a big responsibility of controlling a 2 ton metal machine. Although many may disagree that raising the age limit to obtain a license will not give teenagers the practice they need, it has been proven that the programs of Graduated Drivers licensing is an effective alternative way to give teenagers the ability to drive but with multiple restrictions then once they are 18 they are given the privilege to obtain a drivers license. The best way to prevent deaths amongst teens is to raise the age limit, and establish Graduated Drivers Licensing programs. (812 Words) Works Cited Gulli, Cathy. "'First, act like an air traffic controller': there's no such thing as a safe teen driver, so parents must step up, a book argues."
Also the fact that teens are so rough towards one another there brains aren’t thinking on what can happen if there physical towards people violently. Adults sometimes complain that were not adults yet, reasons why we can’t drive, buy alcohol, nor vote. In Paul Thompson’s article, “Startling Finds on Teenage Brian” published in The Sacramento Bee stated, “While research on brain-tissues loss can help us to understand teens better, it cannot be used to excuse their violent or homicidal behavior. But it can be used as evidence that teenagers are not yet adults, and the legal system shouldn’t treat them as such”. Jurors should think while there in court that treating teens as adults is something pretty much unfair, because why try teens as adults if there not even close to one.
So why can’t they enjoy a few beers legally? That is the question asked by many and has yet an exact and final answer on whether it will be allowed. According to David J. Hanson, an alcohol policy expert at the State University of New York-Potsdam, “Raising the drinking age to 21 was passed with the very best of intentions, but it’s had the very worst of outcomes” (Johnson, 1). Drinking in young people is becoming a serious problem as days move on, but having the drinking age at 21 is not helping solve these problems. Something
Gina Curiale April 27th, 2011 Professor Byrd English 088 Should the Drinking Age be changed to 21? Ever since the drinking age was legally changed to 21 in 1984, there have been people debating against it. Some people believe it should be lower, citing European nations that have a much lower or non-existent drinking age. Others believe the legal age should actually be higher, noting that the brain doesn’t fully develop until after 21, and people still need more time to mature and sequentially drink responsibility. However, the drinking age is perfect where it is at 21 for statistical reasons that work well for America.
Even though the show only aired once a week, it portrayed a bad image that parents did not want their children to be idolizing. A large number of college students can be found in bars and nightclubs today trying to imitate the cast. This leads to irresponsible drinking and actions. Society today cannot only blame entertainment media for the influence that it has on people. Morals and values are first taught in the home.
18-year olds barely have any time and are under gargantuan amounts of stress, forcing them to do community service will hurt their general well being. I agree with my opponent, Community Service is a great thing if done from the heart. But, forcing careless teenagers to work around an issue they do not care about is not going to help the community rather their sloppy and negligent work may do the exact opposite. Community service is supposed to be voluntary and if a person volunteers to do community service that is all fine and well but forcing students to do something that they do not care about nor want to do will not help anyone. Community service should come from the heart, it shouldn't be forced.
While not all teenagers do such things, many sit on their backside all day long and wait for the world to change, others are making sure that we don’t end up like future generations, fighting over why the country is in such a mess instead of doing something about it. People say that teenagers see the world as black and white, right and wrong. While adults have a more vague idea of right and wrong as they get older. Maybe the fact that we don’t have as much life experience is a good thing. We are unaware of outside dangers that teachers can’t teach in school.
