Policy problem and goal: The quality of health care provided by nurses at hospital facilities has always been a point of controversial discussion in the United States (US), and even more so with the decline in the availability of qualified nurses and an increase in nurses that are overworked. The US, often referred to as a mecca for its world class hospitals and patient care facilities, is facing the worst shortage of qualified nurses in its history. Most hospitals in the nation are running on reduced nursing staff and often have to overwork their nursing staff to meet the demands of patient care. Research has shown that by reducing the number of nurses, patient outcomes deteriorate and length of stay increases (Garretson, 2004). Reducing nurse staffing can lead to overworked nurses, low staff morale, less patient satisfaction, and errors and more malpractice suits, which can raise the costs much more than hiring more nurses (Garretson).
The other problem is that there is not enough treatment here in American Samoa to cure our people, so the option for other people is to pay their air fare and go to the state in searching for the treatment that they need. Last issue is the expenses of medicine, most people rely on it to live but they could not afford it if there is not enough money. Hospital bills expenses are basically the problem that will not let other people be in the hospital. They can get stressed by figuring out a way to eliminate the bills so they could be eligible to get help from the hospital again. There should be a way to help the community on these there needs for paying their bills.
September 16, 2010 “Unhealthy” Essay It is so disturbing after watching the film Sicko to find how a lot of hospitals and health insurance companies treat the patients that cannot afford health insurance. I knew that the healthcare field was a complete mess, but I never would have dreamed that some hospitals would literally dump them on the street with no medical help. Everyday people continue to amaze me, how they value money over everything, including for some, and their own lives. The United States healthcare industry seems to decline more each year, compared to other countries. I have to admit, before watching Michael Moore’s documentary, Sicko; I did not have the slightest clue how terrible the United States healthcare industry was.
Most of the time, they do not come to the health center until their illness is extremely painful and/or life threatening. It is not because they do not care about their health, but fearful of the consequences of being in this country without proper paperwork. As a government funded health center, we do not report to immigration, and we welcome anyone with or without citizenship or insurance. I have taken care of many elderly patients with co-morbidities.
The Overlooked Connection between Social Needs and Good Health summary of findings from a survey of america’s physicians December 2011 health care’s blind side Summary of FINDINGS A national survey reveals that physicians believe unmet social needs are directly leading to worse health for Americans — and that patients’ social needs are as important to address as their medical conditions. Medical care alone cannot help people achieve and maintain good health if they do not have enough to eat, live in a dilapidated apartment without heat or are unemployed. Physicians report that their patients frequently express health concerns caused by unmet social needs beyond their control. This is health care’s blind side: Within the current
People go to the hospital in order to get better from whatever ailment is troubling them. Healthcare workers should give no less than an excellent quality of care towards the patients. Being lax about cleanliness lowers this quality of care and puts everyone in danger. Unfortunately, not all hospitals adhere to strict cleanliness rules and as a result, the number of HAIs are increasing with the U.S. Department
Solutions for Nursing Personnel Shortages Executive Summary Senior Human Resource Management should adopt some changes in order to combat the current growing nursing/healthcare personnel shortage. Employees simply want to be heard and sympathized with. Nowadays the nursing shortage has caused many problems in the healthcare industry. First and foremost, the quality of care being provided to patients is declining due to the fact that there are not as many nurses to care for the patient appropriately. As a matter of fact, the workload being dumped on the employees is steadily increasing.
These discrepancies are seen in healthcare settings and sometimes affects a person’s ability to receive proper healthcare and/or visit sick family members. Money, transportation, lack of social support have major affects on patients’ hospital experiences. Money plays a major role when dealing with hospitalized patients. Some patients may not have insurance, either because their job does not have an insurance plan or because they can’t afford the insurance their job offers. This may prevent them from seeing a doctor when problems occur.
Today millions of Americans cannot afford the sufficient health care they need. The price of health insurance is costing us the people thousands of dollars. Therefore, I believe the government should provide health care to all citizens regardless of their ability to pay for that care. Some rich people may prefer to pay for medical treatment, while the government must necessarily subsidize the health care for children, senior citizens, the unemployed and the homeless, as these groups cannot provide for themselves and, are extremely financially vulnerable. However, working adults can use the benefits of the medical insurance, which will give them an opportunity for a decent medical service and reduce the general taxation burden.
To me Sheriff Joe Arpaio change the norms of society to make Arizona and the world a better place. Not everyone may agree and may appose this deeply but this is just my opinion. I am tired of working my butt off all the time and having to pay taxes and then watching illegal immigrants not help out the society. When my car gets hit by a illegal immigrant and it’s not my fault I have to pay for it. I do not think it is fair that they can walk into a hospital and be helped without paying a cent and I am still trying to pay for my medical bills.
