Unit 503 Champion Equality, Diversity and Inclusion 1.1 Models of Practice that underpin equality, diversity and inclusion in own area of responsibility. Within my role as a manager I have to ensure my own and staff members practice is fair and that practice is underpinned by policies and procedures that raise awareness about equality, diversity and inclusion, encouraging debate and devising strategies of practice that empower rather than disable. This practice needs to be passed on to the foster carers and the young people we come into contact with. Equality can be explained as ‘fairness’ treating people fairly and ensuring individuals receive what they are entitled to and to an equal standard, consideration and respect. Equality: is fair treatment and access to opportunities for all regardless of differences like their ability, culture, race, gender, religion, sexual orientation or any other group characteristic. Equality is based on principles such as fairness, respect, honesty and providing opportunities. Equality can be shown by removing barriers, promoting ways to develop to their full potential and being treated fairly. Inclusion: is to embrace all people regardless of race, gender, age, ability etc.

When it is used with equality it is about recongnising individual as well as group differences, treating people as indiviudals, and placing positive value on diversity. Equality - treating people in a way that is appropriate for their needs. Making sure people are treated fairly and given fair chances. Recognise their needs and that they are met in different ways. Inclusion - equal opportunities for everyone whatever their age, gender, ethnicity, to be included.
