Employee Motivation Employee Motivation Motivation is the psychological feature that arouses a person into action toward a desired goal and elicits, controls, and sustains certain goal directed behaviors. For instance: An individual has not eaten, he or she feels hungry, and as a response he or she eats and diminishes feelings of hunger. There are many approaches to motivation: according to psychologist Abraham Maslow all people, no matter their individual differences, had specific motivational needs ranging from the very basic to the very complex (Tracy, 2011) Maslow’s hierarchy of needs start from the basic need of survival and progress through security, belongingness, self-esteem and then to self-actualization. Employee’s motivation can be based on the desire to fulfill these basic needs depending on the individual, will show how well employee will react to the incentives. Every employee is different in their needs and desires and a variety of motivational tools are needed in a company to fulfill those wishes so that the company can bring forth a desired response. According to Maslow the most basic of all needs is the need to survive. This includes the desire to preserve one’s life, to have enough food and a roof over their head. This has been a prime instinct for the human since the dawn of creation. The primary goal for many people in the economy today is to get a job to feed and shelter their family. Most people will take any job to be able to fulfill these needs. For many people, money talks and it is widely use among companies that can afford it. When you do not have a job or have a job with inadequate pay, you strive to achieve more so you can afford the basic necessities of food and shelter. If you have a good job with good pay your motivation is to keep it. Especially in a job market that there are more workers than positions, an employer can
