Entering college can be one of the scariest, yet liberating experiences of a young adult’s life. It’s a time to branch out and grow as a person and really figure who one would like to become. The largest and most substantial moment in my life so far has been starting college. This is because college is a mature environment where a student has not only many freedoms and responsibilities but a chance to learn, socialize, and get active in the university community. The first year of college forms students into well-rounded individuals.
In most cases, preps are the students of the school who only wear high dollar clothing, fix their hair just perfect every day, and prance around thinking they are better then the rest of the student body. They won’t associate with anybody outside of their clique, and hardly ever allow anyone in theirs’. Preps are usually very popular in their schools, and have many “friends”. They generally try to get into every club their school offers and
Not to mention the flooded hallways due to everyone being released at the same time. It’s almost suffocating walking through the hallway because thousands of students are trying to go to their next class. Trying to maneuver to your next class can be a battle within its self because of the traffic one must go through just to get to class .Typically high school campuses are fairly large in which if a student has a class across the school then they not only have to go across the school but must hurriedly use the restroom. This can cause some students to stress about arriving to their next class on time instead of focusing on their studies. Students shouldn’t have to be penalized for not having an adequate amount of time to do what is necessary before going to their next class.
This can be lonely, overwhelming and unsettling without the support, connections and security from home. Students are more vulnerable and can feel a greater need to fit in with those around them. Drinking can make them feel more outgoing and relieve stress. It is one of the many social pressures that college students are faced with on a daily basis. The first six weeks of enrollment are critical to first-year student success.
Causes of binge drinking among college students Many college students experience lots of different “new” experiences when they graduate from high school and move on to college. Especially, the first year college students gets out of control easily on such as drinking alcohol, taking drugs, and having an immature sexual behaviors. Out of all these, binge drinking can be the top of the list and is the most common problem among college students. Major causes of binge drinking among college students are from consistent peer pressure, and one particular ways of enjoying their freedom from their parents. Since they are finally free from their parents or guardians, they want to enjoy their freedom by doing as you can call it “activities” that they were not allow to do when they were living with their parents because most parents won’t allow them to do such an activity.
“How can I make this world a better place?” At first thought, it is typical to envision projects such as building homes in underdeveloped communities. Although acts of contribution like these are life-changing, today’s generation often forgets about those who evolved us into who we are today. To combat this dilemma, I have been visiting a local nursing home for 4 years, and it has been the most uplifting experience a young person can be part of. When I became involved with volunteerism in my freshman year, I felt alone. Not many kids in my high school wanted to visit seniors in a nursing home.
College vs. High School By Erika Clough Many students, especially those who do not have a family member who has been to college, believe college is pretty much like high school, only bigger. In today’s modern society the two most popular forms of education are a high school education and a college education. More people than ever are striving to better themselves by achieving some form of college education. To be prepared, it helps to know what differences lay ahead. Though academic requirements and student life vary depending on the college you attend, there are basic differences that apply in almost every case.
Campus Life Many students expect their life, on their own, to be paradise. Living free of their parent’s reign, students move into dormitories [a resident hall providing rooms for individuals or for groups usually without private baths(Merrium-Webster)]. Life without curfews and many "house" rules would seem to be a student’s first taste of being an adult. Living in the dorms is the biggest hardship and challenge for most freshman students in transition from home to college life not to mention the life of living on campus period. The living conditions, roommates’ situations, and campus life are most of the difficulties one might face as a freshman in the dorms.
When a teenager enters college and starts to live like a college student, there are a lot of obstacles that come in the way. One of the obstacles is fearing of looking foolish or ignorant in-front of others. I remember when I came to college on the first day there were so many different types of people, and it came to a point in my head that I could not act as my self whiles I was on the campus grounds. The reason for that was because in college there are groups, and different types of fraternities, which involves huge parties, getting popular, and gaining respect. Unfortunately, most students are attracted to this kind of life.
Just think about all that hard work you have done throughout the last three years; taking test, completing projects, and preparing yourself for college. Many colleges require a list of all the classes you took your senior year, even the levels of those courses. By looking at this list they will determine what kind of students you are and if you decided to slack off. Senior year is just another year to strengthen your knowledge and learning skills, to prepare for all the challenges ahead. A successful senior year can lead you to a better path to a successful future.
