Many people live together before they are married, and co-habitation is becoming more and more popular in today’s society. This means a man and woman are living together within a sexual relationship without being married. Though many people don’t think this is a big deal, some Christians may argue against this. Absolutist Christians may argue against co-habitation, as having a sexual relationship outside of marriage is seen believed to be a sin as they believe sex should be saved for marriage. This is because a woman’s virginity is seen as their holy innocence- you can only loose it once, so it can not be repented for. Co-habitation may be seen as placing yourself in temptations path. On the other hand, a relativist Christian may argue that it does not matter if a couple live together before they are married, so long as the couple love and are committed to each other, and believe that marriage may follow in the future. This way the couple can see if they are compatible to live with each other before marriage, as divorce is frowned upon. Following on from that, some people may argue that living with someone before marriage in a sexual relationship devalues it, because if the relationship is not fully committed and has troubles, it makes it easier to just walk away. It could cause people to become very relaxed with whom they pair up with, as they think that they can just get out of the relationship, easy peasy. But if they marry the person it is much harder to obtain a divorce. Another reason that co-habitation is popular is that many people do not believe in marriage. This could be for a number of reasons, such as high divorce rates. 1 in 2 marriages in since 2000 have ended in divorce. In my opinion, I do not think co-habitation is that much of a big deal.
