Abnormal Psychology Client: Angelique from the movie “He loves me, he loves me not.” The results of the DSM- IV multiaxial evaluation are as follows: Axis I: 297.1 Delusional Disorder (Erotomanic Type) with Major Depressive Episode Axis II: V 71.09 (No diagnosis) Axis III: None Axis IV: Living alone, inability to establish close relationships in real life Axis V: GAF of 10 When Angelique, the movie’s main character first saw her neighbor— the person of a higher social status—cardiologist Loic Le Garrec, she started experiencing nonbizzare delusions about their idealized romantic relationship (Criterion A). In fact, Doctor Le Garrec dearly loved his wife who was expecting a baby, and had no idea that he was involved in a delusional relationship with Angelique. A client was trying to contact the object of her desire by sending annoying love letters and gifts, leaving voice messages on Loic’s home phone, etc. Angelique was also stalking her object and always tried to be around him wherever she could. On the evening party where they “accidentally” ran into each other in the bathroom (in fact she followed him), her emotional display changed and she was feeling euphoria (affect) just to have the chance to talk to him. When Loic friendly offered her a ride (because they were neighbors), she misinterpreted the brief friendly conversation for a meaningful spiritual union between them. She also was around him in the park where he and his wife went out for a picnic. Being a talented artist, she liked portraying him, and he was the theme for most of her paintings.
