Running head: DRUG-FREE WORKPLACE EVALUATION Drug-Free Workplace Evaluation Terry Smith University of Phoenix Chemical Dependency in the Workplace PSY 425 Robin Friedman, Ph.D. February 24, 2008 Introduction UCLA Medical Center ranked one of the top five hospitals in the nation and has designed a drug free program to encourage employees with substance abuse problems to seek treatment, recover, and return to work. UCLA Medical Center have also taken steps and implemented policies and procedures to ensure employees are not taking or using alcohol or drugs during work and non-work hours. Employees are encouraged to use the EAP (employee assistance program) to address personal issues and other services to improve overall health and productivity. Drug-Free Workplace Evaluation UCLA Medical Center History UCLA Medical Center is rated best in the country for treating complex illnesses. They rank one of the top five hospitals in the nation. According to the U.S. News and World Report, UCLA Medical Center is at the cutting edge of biomedical research, and the doctors, and scientists are teachers in performing pioneering work across an astounding range of disciplines from organ transplantation and cardiac surgery to neurosurgery and cancer treatment, and bringing the latest discoveries to virtually every field of medicine. Therefore, it is imperative for the employees to remain drug free to take care of the community.
