All elderly individuals will deal with ageing in different ways, they may wish to stay active or they may wish to disengage themselves due to being unable to deal with the ageing process. There are many services which are available to the elderly population, these services are usually provided to help people remain active, socially, physically, emotionality and intellectually. All these aspects are extremely important for elderly people to keep mentally and physically healthy. As the administrator of Sunny Side Nursing Home, it is my responsibility to ensure that each resident receives the proper care and treatment. Since many of the residents have to be relocated, whether it is to another facility or with a family member, I must ensure that the proper information is communicated and that HIPAA regulations are followed. Communication Methods According to Smith and Jones (2009), “The communication process has four main elements: the sender, the message, the receiver, and the feedback (Perioperative Communication, p. 2). The sender, which in this case would be myself, is responsible for assessing the message and conveying it to the residents at Sunny Side.
Examples of what Day care centres offer include activities to improve personal skills, social groups, tea parties and also free nutritious meals. Day care programme are designed to promote wellbeing and prevent issues such as feelings of worthlessness and loneliness. Elderly individuals can turn up and socialise with other service users. These centres not only improve the lives of old people but also, it means that the full time carers (who may be family members) can also take a break from caring duties , reassured that their loved ones are in a loving and safe environment for a few hours. There are also day centres for young children whose parent or parents can’t look after them due to being in full time jobs.
Elder abuse has become a concern with the use of nursing homes for the elderly. This population now requires advocacy to prevent the abuse. Human services must recognize this growing problem, and address the issue through advocacy. Mediation is necessary between the elderly in the nursing homes experiencing the abuse, and for the nursing homes. The role of the mediator is to understand and acknolodge both sides to prevent these types of abuse.
