It is because people can enjoy more facilities and services inside the cruise, such as swimming pool and game rooms. However, what passengers can do in airplane is just watching to a mini movie player which is in front of their seats. In fact, the industry of cruise in Hong Kong has not been well-developed. Travelling by airplane is still the most common method to visit other places, rather than travelling by cruise. Actually, cruise industry is an indeed potential market. Therefore, this essay discusses whether the Hong Kong Government should develop cruise industry . From the employee’s point of view, the Hong Kong Government should develop cruise industry as it can create numerous employment opportunities. In order to operate the cruise service smoothly, plenty of workers are needed, such as waiters in restaurant inside the cruise. Until 2020, a study estimates that income from the cruise industry in Hong Kong can reach to $1.4 billion to $2.2 billion per year and create 6,900 to 10,900 job opportunities [1]. It is not only the Hong Kong’s economy can grow rapidly, but also the Hong Kong workers can get a job to work. At the same time, the problem of unemployment in Hong Kong is also eased. Besides, other industries in Hong Kong can also be benefited from a flourishing cruise industry. Every cruise arrives in Hong Kong, thousands of visitors are going to spend their money on different aspects, such as purchasing brand-new gadgets. The Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB) [2] indicates that overnight visitor’s spending on shopping, hotel bills, meals outside hotels, entertainment, tours and others aspects are increased from 2010 to 2011.
