Ecstasy (MDMA) MDMA (3,4-methylenedioxy-methamphetamine), is more commonly known as ecstasy. In American, ecstasy’s popularity was in the late 1980s by people in the underground club scene or ravers. The drug is most popular with teens, young adults, and the gay community. Ecstasy is considered a designer drug. Designer drugs are synthetic (lab-made) versions of drugs that are controlled substances under U.S. law. Designer drugs are similar in structure and in effect to other drugs, but they are made in illegal laboratories to mimic the psychoactive effects of controlled drugs. Ecstasy, most commonly, will be taken in the form of a pill or as a flat round tablet. In the gay community, the underground rave scene is huge. They do drugs and have sex with multiply partners throughout the high. While on Ecstasy, people lose their sexual inhibitions; moreover, may prevent men from thinking about the necessity for safe sex. With this care-free sexual attitude, comes the risk of getting AIDS or other STD’s. Again, the users of “sextasy” lose their sexual inhibitions, leading to multiple partners and “barebacking.” Raves are usually held all night long in abandon ware houses or in the middle of the forest. An experienced raver on Ecstasy will have water, lollipops, glow sticks, and a pacifier. The water is to stay hydrated. Pacifier and lollipops are to help with jaw clenching and teeth grinding. Glow sticks are used whiling dancing to make the high more intense. In conclusion, ecstasy is a synthetic drug. It is huge in the raving and gay community, and is very dangerous. It is considered the “love drug”. Ecstasy messes with the nervous system, and enhances all senses. Taking Ecstasy can lead to lose of sexual inhibitions, which can lead to AIDs or other STDs.
