From 1892 to 2002, the Olympic Games are considered one of the most important and popular sport events worldwide held every four years in different countries. Factors such as ethnicity, gender and financial support contributed to the establishment of the Olympic Games. The competition between several countries, races and ethnicities were the main pillars in which the Olympics were built on. Documents 1,3,4,5 and 6 all demonstrate us the differences between ethnicities. Document 1 is a speech from the founder of the modern Olympic movement to the Athletic Society of France. It talks about the “utopians” in France and allowing their people to join the Olympics, resulting in more peace. The founder, Pierre de Coubertin, explains how the athletes are exported into other land without any hostility. These words may be considered sincere since they come from a reliable source. Documents 3, 4, 5 and 6 also show the factor of ethnic differences. Document 3 is about the Nazi’s ability to compete and desire to prove to everyone else that they’re better in every single aspect. This document states that the only thing that matter to the Germans was victory, and that all means to this end were justified. This not only shows the competitive spirit of the athletes, but the importance of the Olympic Games as well. The Germans considered the importance of the games to show the world their “supremacy”. In the other hand, it would be more helpful to see some examples of German Athletes who won under these circumstances at this Olympics Games in order to have a better view of the influence of Nazism. Documents 4, 5 and 6 all show the impact of the ethnic differences as well. In document 4 we can see the competitiveness and pressure that the U.S Olympic Team suffered because of the presence of the Soviet team and the rivalry that they represent.
