(629). The doves once again come to Ashputtle’s aid but in the end the stepmother breaks her promise and Ashputtle is not allowed to go. (629). Once everyone leaves to the wedding, she goes and weeps at her mother’s grave. There, Ashputtle asks the hazel tree for a dress, “to throw her down silver and gold”.
When Edith Wharton was writing these pieces she created two male characters, both already committed to a woman, who fell deeply in love with another. In both cases, however, the men kept their feelings locked away in their hearts, waiting for the right moment to share their feelings with their new loves. The stories similarities are the color red in association to the new women and the secret suspicions of the male characters’ wives. One point of contrast between the two novels is the reason neither male characters, Ethan and Newland, ran away with his new love, leaving behind his wife. Throughout the two works, the color red was associated with the temptresses Ethan and Newland fell in love with.
We as readers can infer a firm moral message. The innocence on Lennie draws sympathy from my self and the reader as we understand Lennie has a mental condition, which must be difficult for a man of the 1930’s as we understand he always keeps George in ‘hot water’. Though George none the less sticks by Lennie, as they’re both reliant on each other, even though it would be easier for George to go ‘alone’, he would feel loneliness without Lennie. They both have a dream and this is what keeps them
This is seen when Steinbeck repeats red colour ‘Her fingernails were red’ and ‘red ostrich feathers’. Red colour has the connotation of love, passion and danger. The use of red colour with curley’s wife enforce the reader to think about her life as she have no love in her life, her passion, being an actress, died and she can be dangerous for Lennie because he is only one who is attracted towards her. Moreover, Steinbeck has also used simple short sentence ‘Her figure nails were red’ to put emphasis on the colour red and to keep the readers engaged by portraying his
Hasn’t she gotten the hint yet? The answer is no, due to the fact that she was killed shortly after finding out about the dog. After seeing how violent and uncontrollable Lennie could be and what he was capable of, she should’ve taken the hint. Curley’s Wife decided not to take Lennie’s warning. Lennie tells her, “I like to pet nice things with my
Tori Who’s Most Responsible ? Romeo and Juliet Although Romeo and Juliet killed them selves, Friar Lawrence was the most responsible for their deaths. Friar Lawrence was the church priest and Romeo and Juliet looked to him for for all their problems. He might have been seen as a small role in the play but, he was a big part of all the decisions made my Romeo and Juliet. Even though he helped them be with each other, he just caused more problems.
Dewey Dell for example only wishes to travel to town in order to receive an abortion. She hardly has time to grieve for her mother, more consumed by the guilt and fear of her sin being known to the rest of the world. Through the journey she transforms from an ignorant and desperate girl into a manipulative, obsessive, and traitorous figure. Knowing that Darl knows of her pregnancy because of his innate ability to look into people`s hearts and see into their deepest secrets is what compelled her to tell Gillipse that he burnt the barn down. She is one of the biggest advocates to put him in a mental institution thereby ensuring no one would believe a word he said if perhaps he was to give her away.
Steinbeck wanted to share what his story was based off of through the title to the readers. The title Of Mice and Men shows how everything can have an end. The title represents this because in the story has many things that don’t go as planned. Many times there is an incident where something makes it so that things take a turn for the worst. When George and Lennie were back in Weed, Lennie grabbed a woman’s red dress and made the girl think that she was being raped.
Their relationship went from employee to amorous love affair to hatred and revenge. Abigail tried proving that their love was genuine but all John did was disagreeing with her. Abigail spoke, “I know how you clutched my back behind your house and sweated like a stallion whenever I came near” (1109). To respond to what Abigail had stated John said, “Abby I may think of you softly from time to time, but I will cut off my hand before I reach for you again” (1109). John’s emotions for Abigail gradually changed because he realized what he was doing was wrong and he knew it was guilt-ridden.
