He was crushed when the car flipped several times -- literally -- and is now paralyzed from the waist down. Jake Tolias, who was sitting behind Thomas, was the only passenger with his seat belt on. As the car flipped, he was slammed into the door and knocked unconscious, while glass slashed his forehead and skull. “In a way, I think I got lucky,” says Jake.” I’m glad I blacked out because remembering every second and every noise would have been too much.” After the accident Jake would lie in bed and attempt to sleep. His eyelids would finally close but his mind would start turning.
In a 3 second moment that seemed to move in slow motion, I grabbed the wheel tight, and then blacked out upon impact with the truck. I remember yelling very loudly out loud to myself expletives I’d never spoken before. I actually recall the Chevy hood ornament before we hit, head-on. The truck and the car were totaled in 3 seconds. The driver, although he saw me, could do nothing to avoid me.

Facts of the Case On May 28, 1972, Mrs. Gray, accompanied by 13-year-old Richard Grimshaw, set out in the Pinto from Anaheim for Barstow to meet Mr. Gray. As she approached the Route 30 off-ramp where traffic was congested, she moved from the outer fast lane to the middle lane of the freeway. Shortly after this lane change, the Pinto suddenly stalled and coasted to a halt in the middle lane. A car traveling immediately behind the Pinto was able to swerve and pass it but the driver of a 1962 Ford Galaxie was unable to avoid colliding with the Pinto. The Galaxie had been traveling from 50 to 55 miles per hour but before the impact had been braked to a speed of from 28 to 37 miles per hour.
The drunk driver ran the red light and hit Jamel’s truck on the driver side. Jamel was still alive though, grasping for air and in shock all at the same time, he managed to crawl out the passenger door. Jamel laid in the snow for approximately ten minutes until the ambulance came. There was no snow within a ten foot radius around Jamel, but there was a colossal puddle of blood. The ambulance arrived to the accident too late to save Jamel.

I just bought a new set not more than a week ago and sure enough, someone decided to leave a screw or two loose in the back of their truck bed only to fall out and let me run it over. That’s what I tell myself anyway knowing full well that it was probably my own fault…maybe something I left on the driveway at the house after working on the engine or fidgeting with the interior. There it is, staring at me, taunting me, daring me to remove it. A screw in the tire is enough to ruin anyone’s day unless you have the material and the little bit of skills it takes to repair it. The first thing I did when I found a screw in my tire was go back into

As I watched them, I looked around for the luggage that shot out of the back of our truck. After the rescue team pulled my brother out of the truck, there was blood all over his face and they placed him into the ambulance on a stretcher. Then we got all of our remaining bags, and started to head down to the nearest emergency room. While driving down to the hospital, my brother’s hair hardened from the clotted blood and I noticed that a humongous bump arose on my head. I did not remember bumping into anything during the rollover accident, and my head did not seem to hurt either.
