COMPARING TWO ITALIAN RESTAURANTS From a sauce laden "Chicken Parmigiana" dish, to a creamy plate of "Fettuccine Alfredo", everyone loves Italian food. Living in New York City, we are lucky enough to have available to us a large number of Italian restaurants that can claim to closely reproduce its authenticity, even though they don't necessarily serve the same style of food nor have the same atmosphere available to their patrons. Riviera Restaurant, on Utopia Parkway in Whitestone, serves delicious, southern Italian cuisine, consisting mainly of dishes whose main ingredients are on the lighter fare, cooked with olive oil and with the use of tomato sauce, a lot of vegetables, and more seafood. Whether you decide to enjoy an early bird meal at a discounted price before 6 pm, or any other time, the limited items on the menu are very tasty, and the portions are so big that you often have leftovers to take home. Also, included at the end of the meal, true Italian style, is a complimentary dish of fruit. The owner, Danny, is very attentive and personally comes out to each table to make sure you're happy with the food and the service. The staff is also competent and cordial. From the taste of the food, and the accent-free Italian the owner speaks, you would think both the chef and the owners are Italian; you'd never guess that the chef is South American and Danny is Albanian. The only problem with the restaurant is that it lacks atmosphere: the main dining room consists of a huge, unadorned square room, crowded with tables covered by stark white tablecloths, unattractive chairs, and a surplus of unstylish, too modern light fixtures and high hats that make the room way too bright. Il Giardino Restaurant, on Douglaston Parkway, in Douglaston, appeals to a more refined crowd, and not only for its higher prices. The restaurant offers a large menu, as well as an array
