The scope of this paper will begin by discussing how my use of online sources has developed over the period of the course. It will then examine how Metzgar (2007) has influenced my ability to search and evaluate the credibility and reliability of various online sources. Finally, I will identify the advantages and limitations I faced whilst working in an online collaborative community and how I dealt with those circumstances. My concept of using online resources has broadened since week 1 when I went back to the basics and touched on the history behind the uprising of what we now call the World Wide Web. Amazingly, the first e-mail was sent 43 years ago, back in 1971, and then it took a further 28 years before we saw the first online social network, Friends Reunited, in 1999 (The University of North Carolina, 2013).
Write a well-constructed article on one muckraker using the outline you created during your website research. Keep the following points in mind as you write your essay: • Include important biographical information about the individual’s life. • Give specific examples of articles and books that were written. What businesses or government offices were targeted in the exposés? • What reforms or changes took place as a result of the individual’s writings?
The American Psychological Association website was located easily by Googling the abbreviation of APA. However, the American Counseling Association was slightly more difficult in that I had to actually spell out the whole title. Out of curiosity I conducted web searches on both organizations using Bing, Google, Yahoo, Wikipedia, Ask, and even DuckDuckGo. Each search engine required me to input the entire name for the American Counseling Association which I find slightly inconvenient due to the fact that, in my opinion their website was much more informative and easier to use then the site for the American Psychological
This is an account of the learnings and research I have done on the subject of colloidal silver. To complete this on line research I chose four online sources to find information on Colloidal Silver to complement my current knowledge. Utilizing the internet and being able to use social constructivism to broaden my scope of personal information and be able to accurately share once the sites had been evaluated. Using the Metzger model for the evaluation of on line information I was able to establish what was credible and what was not. The subject I chose is somewhat controversial as it challenges the cultural beliefs of many and finding information not tainted by misrepresentation was always going to pose a challenge.
Brian Snyder WEB111A WK3 DQ Rules of Good Web Design What do you think are the 3 most important rules for good Web page design? This Yahoo! The reference links on Wikipedia proved to be more beneficial to my research than any of the information actually contained within the site. I found the website for The British Origami Society through the reference links on Wikipedia. It was the most informative site and I found it useful in backing up any information I had obtained from Wikipedia. Scanning the front page of the website, I discovered a man named David Lister who was recognized as an ‘Origami Historian’. The site contains copious amounts of short essays and opinion pieces written by Lister
Websites are really easy to use and contain a variety of information, such as pictures, tables and diagrams/graphs. Websites can be really inviting, they can be colourful, this is better than a website looking really dull and boring as nobody would want to read the information there. Books are a suitable resource too as they are reliable. Books are reliable as they have to be checked by a number of agents before they get published therefore there won't be anything made up in there. Books are also a good resource as they include case studies and real life situations.
Also verify if the information is supported by others and lastly, it’s suggested you determine the sensibility of the information you gathered. With Google being a personal favorite, I decided to compare EBSCO's search engine against Google’s search engine and immediately before checking Berkeley’s internet evaluating techniques, unfortunately I saw that Google’s search was commercially driven producing web pages for companies that offer internet security services for purchase, whereas EBSCO’s site did not produce any advertisements. However depending on the specific need for the information may not be looked at as negative. Although Google’s search produces commercial organization first, it does mention that these are advertisements and also provide you with the
When a software is open-source, it means that its code is available to the public for anyone to redistribute and modify. This may seem bad at first, but developers from around the world have the ability to fix errors made by the official developers, to discuss changes and issues with other fellow developers, and create useful Android apps. iOS, as opposed to Android, is closed-source, which means nobody but Apple can view the source or modify the code. Open-source can also have much better quality than competing proprietary software, like iOS. Because open-source projects like Android are visible to anyone to evaluate and give credibility to, the developers do a better job maintaining the quality of the product.
Let’s take a look at both options. Let’s start off by looking at flexibility, online learning offers flexibility which allows students to complete their education on their own time and in a place that they chose. This type of learning is great for working students or single parents. However, student who need to be motivated and struggle to get into a groove on their own than classroom learning is the way to go. When it comes to communication online learning now has the opportunities for instant communication such as message boards, online chatting, and even video conferencing, but this does not replace the experience of face to face interaction.
