Cohabitation vs Marriage: The decreasing rates of marriage Abstract Over the years, cohabitation rates have increased at a rapid pace, and marriage rates have been decreasing. What was once a frowned upon lifestyle in our society, has now become normal and widespread. This can have a negative affect on the future of marriage rates. Especially since usually cohabitation has negative results on a couple's well being. It can also negativiely effect the well being of a child if there is any. Relationships and marriage are very difficult, but people need to understand these hardships of marriage and relationships and learn to fight through the challenges for the well being of themselves and their partner. As you reach the end you take one last glance at your father, slowly yet eagerly letting go of his arm and walking to the side of your betrothed, and making the most biggest and important decision of your life, marriage. This is the fantasy of what many females may have as they are younger, the ideal dream of being married and having an extravagant and big wedding. Though, as you become older, and more aware of how relationships actually work, the concept of marriage might seem to be more of a nightmare rather than a fantasy.
