Rhetorical Analysis With each new scientific discovery comes the question of ethics. Should we be doing this? Is that it is done in the name of science a good enough reason to bypass general ethical standards? Writer Maya Eddon posts her opinion on human cloning in an article on the Discovery Tech Website. She argues that cloning is, "an unprecedented advance in medical research" and should be used to its full potential.
Gene therapy is the use of DNA as a pharmaceutical agent to treat disease. It originates its name from the idea that DNA can be used to enhance or alter genes within an individual's cells as a therapy to treat disease. PGD has many advantages - being able to test for more than 1,000 genetic conditions including Cystic fibrosis, Huntington's disease, Sickle-cell anaemia, Tay-Sachs disease and Down syndrome. This allows doctors to examine embryonic cells for certain genetic and chromosomal disorders and lets parents make implantation decisions based on the results Adults who know that they are carriers of a genetic disorder can undergo PGD to ensure their children won’t inherit the disorder meaning that if the disease you carry requires treatment throughout the course of your life, it may save you a small fortune because even though it costs a lot to have the PGD test it will save you a great deal in the long term. Parents can focus on specific areas of DNA involved in any conditions the parents may have doubts about.
Biological Theories of Aging Many scientists and researchers are trying to better understand the human aging process in the aspect of physical changes, certain diseases and lifespan in relation to other species. Currently, within the scientific field, hypotheses called biological theories of aging have been created to better understand the aging process. These biological theories; random damage theories of aging, programmed aging theories and extending the maximum lifespan have assisted in explaining the phenomenon of normal process of aging and the pathological process of aging. There are two random damage theories of aging currently being used within the medical and scientific field to better understand aging and death. The first random damage theory of aging is called DNA Damage.
In this report, we will elaborate further about how these experts deliver ideas, state arguments, and provide enough proofs to support their thoughts. We have studied and compared two different texts from different authors. The first text is titled ‘Don't Fall for The Cult Of Immortality’ written by S Jay Olshansky, PhD, who is a professor at the School of Public Health, UIC and author of The Quest for Immortality. The second text is ‘We Will Be Able to Live to 1,000’ written by Dr. Aubrey de Grey, retrieved from BBC news. Dr. Aubrey de Grey is a geneticist from Cambridge University that leads the SENS (Strategies for Engineered Negligible Senescence) project at the university and also runs the Methuselah Mouse prize for extending age in mice.
The motivation and reason behind the lab was to investigate the ideas for all intents and purpose. In this lab we explored the scientific concept practically. This lab provided us the chance to watch and figure out how to utilize the compound Light Microscope. Vocabulary: Binocular, monocular, par focal, wet mount ,cheek epithelial cells . Procedure : Microscope is very important tool in biology The sort of magnifying lens that we utilized as a part of this lab is a compound light magnifying instrument.
2. Describe the main points of the article and how it relates to the week's course and text readings. 3. Evaluate the article on the basis of your own thoughts and perspectives on the topic covered. Article Analysis: Article 1; Your DNA, Decoded Past, present and future Your DNA, Decoded gives us a glimpse at all the different ways that DNA and the genetic codes can be of use today and in the future.
Science had development the MRI machine, giving researchers a way to measure brain activity. In further research, found was that mental processes and states could possibly be measured because of the functions these machines could do (Cognitive Processes Classes, 1997). Because all the studies that were produced due to the new technology that science had given, cognitive psychology was defined and the study of human cognition was well on its way to new theories and answers (Cognitive Processes Classes, 1997). Cognitive science, in definition, can be defined as a scientific study of intelligence and the mind (Encyclopedia-Cognitive Science, 2003). Almost every introduction made formally of cognitive science stresses that psychology, neuroscience, education, philosophy, linguistics, biology, anthropology, and computer science are principal branches to the scientific research of cognitive science (Encyclopedia-Cognitive Science, 2003).
Through embryonic stem cell research is how. We will explore the birth of an embryonic stem cell, how we use them, and why they are crucial for today’s medical miracles. Miracles one might exclaim! Which brings up another point: “Are Scientist Playing God? It Depends on Your
How does the National Institutes of Health promote the well being of not just Americans but people worldwide? What is and how does the Federal Grant Funding Program function to promote scientific research? Did our country become a world leader in science because of our unique approach to the organization of our country set forth by our constitution? How does the National Institutes of Health promote the well being of not just Americans but people worldwide? The National Institutes of Health (NIH), a part of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services , is the nation’s medical research agency making important discoveries that improve health and save lives.
Personalized medicine will hopefully change how physicians treat their patients in the future. Instead of treating a patient according to the statistics of a particular drug or disease used on a group of people, they will treat patients according to the makeup of their genes. During the Human Genome Project, an international scientific research project, the human genetic code was discovered. It was this discovery that has changed the way scientists view the possibilities of what medicine can accomplish. As technology advances, scientists are able to better understand genetics.
